Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a widely used implantable medical
device, with over 240,000 reported implantations worldwide, for alleviating
symptoms and treating disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential
tremor, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression. The conventional
DBS system, consisting of electrodes implanted in the brain, a stimulator
placed subcutaneously under the clavicle, and connecting leads, has
remained largely unchanged since 1997. However, this design introduces
challenges, including surgical complexity, mechanical fatigue leading to
device damage, skin erosion due to device geometry, and the need for
periodic battery replacement every 3–5 years. In this study, we propose a
thin, skull-conformal, monolithic DBS device to address these limitations.
The proposed design integrates the conventional components into a single
unit positioned directly on the skull, reducing surgical complexity, and
replaces the battery with wireless power delivery to eliminate the need for
replacement surgeries. Furthermore, inspired by the segmented
morphology of a centipede, the device is designed to conform closely to the
skull, mitigating mechanical fatigue and skin erosion. We demonstrate that
the proposed DBS device adheres closely to the skull, delivers wireless
power, and enables four-channel electrical stimulation controlled via
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), highlighting its potential for clinical
    application.
