The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among advertising attitude, product attitude, and purchase intention by focusing on the physical communication and pose expressions of advertising models in visually intensified advertising environments. While prior research has predominantly emphasized cognitive attributes of advertising models, such as awareness and image characteristics, this study extends existing literature by analyzing the consumer persuasion process through nonverbal communication—specifically, advertising model poses—and advertising consistency grounded in the match-up hypothesis. To achieve the research objectives, descriptive statistics and correlation analyses were conducted to assess the distributions and interrelationships among the variables. Multiple regression analyses were performed to examine direct effects, while mediation and moderation effects were tested using
the PROCESS Macro (Model 4 and Model 1, respectively) to identify conditional and indirect relationships among key constructs.
The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, advertising model characteristics exhibited a significant positive relationship with consumer attitudes. Second, advertising model characteristics were positively associated with perceived advertising consistency. Third, advertising consistency demonstrated a significant positive effect on consumer attitudes. Fourth, advertising consistency was found to play a mediating role in the relationship between
advertising model characteristics and consumer attitudes. Fifth, the moderating effects of advertising factor characteristics were partially supported. Specifically, the presence or absence of hand gestures did not yield a significant moderating effect, suggesting that model poses exert meaningful influence only when they align with advertising model type, product category, and advertising message. In contrast, advertising model type showed a significant moderating effect, reaffirming its critical role in advertising effectiveness.
This study is of academic significance in that it redefined the advertising model as a communication subject that visually reconstructs the attributes and values of products, not just visual expressors. In addition, it has practical implications by suggesting that strategic consideration of advertisement consistency is needed with physical communication in the process of advertising planning and model production.
