This study aimed to investigate the perceptions and needs of speech-language pathologists regarding the development of a language assessment tool for multicultural children in Korea.
A total of 100 speech-language pathologists participated in a survey examining their experiences, satisfaction, and practical needs related to multicultural language assessment.
The results showed that 81% of respondents had experience assessing multicultural children, and there was a significant difference in satisfaction with existing tools depending on clinical experience (t=-2.81, p<.01).
Qualitative analysis revealed five key components for future tool development: linguistic and cultural diversity, language exposure, parent interview, nonverbal cognition, and use of visual materials.
Based on these findings, this study emphasizes the urgent need for a culturally and linguistically responsive assessment model, providing a foundation for future tool development and validation research in the field.
