In contemporary society, large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and wildfires occur repeatedly due to climate change and urbanization, and housing issues that persist for long periods after disasters have increasingly emerged as a critical social concern. Conventional emergency shelters are primarily planned for rapid installation and short-term protection, and while they play a certain role in the initial response phase, they reveal limitations as the period of habitation extends. In particular, their standardized spatial configurations and limited methods of expansion often fail to adequately support the recovery of everyday life. As a result, such shelters tend to remain as mere protective spaces and may function as spatial constraints in the process of reconstructing life after disaster.
Based on this problem awareness, this study seeks to reinterpret disaster-response housing not as a temporary structure, but as a spatial system capable of gradual transformation in response to changes in time and living conditions. To this end, the study adopts the production efficiency of prefabrication while focusing on geodesic structures as an alternative to compensate for the structural rigidity and spatial monotony commonly found in conventional modular systems. Geodesic structures, composed of triangular geometries, offer both lightweight construction and structural stability, and are well suited to segmented components and repetitive assembly. By applying the geometric principles of geodesic structures to a prefabricated modular system, this research proposes a structural framework composed of nodes, struts, and panels. The system secures structural flexibility by separating the standardization of the upper structural frame from the site-adaptive characteristics of the ground support system, enabling responses to diverse terrains and disaster environments. Furthermore, through different panel configurations, the same structural frame can accommodate varied spatial programs, including residential units, shared spaces, and support facilities. In addition, the aggregation of housing units is not defined as a fixed layout, but rather as an environment that allows for phased expansion and reconfiguration. In the initial stage, minimal housing units are formed with an emphasis on rapid deployment and accessibility. As the period of habitation extends, shared spaces and support programs are gradually introduced according to emerging needs. In this process, the central space evolves from a residual area into a place that accommodates interaction and collective activities among residents. Ultimately, this thesis proposes a prefabricated geodesic modular system that frames disaster-response housing as a flexible spatial system capable of repeated use and reconfiguration, rather than as a short-term temporary facility. Through this approach, the study aims to present a spatial possibility that supports everyday recovery and community formation in response to changing post-disaster conditions
