Autonomous vehicles can enhance driving safety and situational awareness by leveraging cooperative information sharing with surrounding vehicles and roadside infrastructure, in addition to onboard sensor data. Such cooperative information exchange is realized in a Cooperative Intelligent Transport System(C-ITS) environment, where Basic Safety Messages(BSMs) broadcast via Vehicle-to-Everything(V2X) communication are used to share driving state information, including vehicle position, speed, and heading. However, BSMs are vulnerable to falsification attacks such as position and speed manipulation. In insider attack scenarios in which authenticated vehicles transmit false information, existing security mechanisms alone are insufficient for effective detection. Consequently, the importance of Misbehavior Detection Systems (MDS) for identifying untrustworthy driving information in C-ITS environments has significantly increased. Most existing MDS studies rely on models trained using data collected from a single domain, such as a specific city or road network, and employ domain-dependent features including absolute positions and velocities. As a result, detection performance can degrade when these models are deployed in unseen domains due to shifts in feature distributions. To address this limitation, this study proposes a domain-robust, deep learning-based MDS that operates reliably under domain changes. In addition to the VeReMi-based dataset, multi-domain datasets with heterogeneous road structures, including YDP, GWNU, and Ulm, are newly generated. Across-domain experimental framework is constructed in which models are trained on a single domain and evaluated on unseen domains. The proposed MDS assumes a C-ITS security architecture consisting of vehicles(Local), Roadside Units(RSUs), and a Misbehavior Authority(MA), and focuses on the Local MDS that directly determines misbehavior at the vehicle level. To improve the generalization capability of the Local MDS, road network–based residual features are introduced to represent vehicle positions relative to lane centerlines, and a BiLSTM-based sequence model is employed. UMAP analysis and cross-domain experimental results demonstrate that the residual feature–based Local MDS effectively mitigates inter-domain distribution discrepancies and achieves more stable detection performance in unseen domains, even when trained on a single domain. In particular, the most significant performance improvement is observed for Constant Position Offset attacks. These results confirm that the proposed MDS enables reliable misbehavior detection across heterogeneous road network domains and provide insights into the design of generalizable vehicle-level MDS for C-ITS environments.
