A Study on the Salon Design according to the Analysis of Men’s hair Style in the Movie Park Su Kyoung Advisor : Prof. Kim Jin Sook, Ph.D. Department of Beauty Scince Graduate School of Gwangju University Unlike in the past, when men’s appearance management behaviors were regar ded as practices limited to women, such behaviors have begun to be recognize d as forms of self-expression that transcend stereotypical constraints and r eflect the deconstruction of gender-based distinctions. In recent times, hai rstyle preferences are changing faster than ever before, and in a social con text where people pursue beauty, beauty services are playing a role in impro ving the quality of life based on basic human needs. In the beauty industry, most research has been on the evolution and analys is of hairstyles, but in actual beauty settings, there is a lack of research on hair design elements that allow hair designers to guide customers through hairstyles to complete hairstyles. Accordingly, this study aims to provide b asic data that can proactively present and apply designs that accommodate co nsumer needs by analyzing the trend of changes in men's hairstyles using dat a collected over 10 years from 1970 to 2020, focusing on shape and hair leng th, which are important factors in determining customers' hairstyles in the beauty industry. This study analyzed the male hairstyles that appear in movies, organized t he currently popular male hairstyles, and then produced a work of art. Accor dingly, this study searched for papers on men's style and collected data thr ough movies, the Internet, etc. The purpose of this study is to suggest a ne w trend by analyzing the formative qualities of men's hairstyles, including artistry, creativity, and design elements, based on shape, color, and texture. For this study, we collected and analyzed male hairstyles that appeared in films produced from the 1970s to the 2020s, and then created a work of art that suggest ed hairstyles for modern men. As a research question, first, we will conduct a literature study on the h istory and evolution of men's hairstyles through domestic books and research papers. Second, we analyze the shapes, types, and characteristics of men's h airstyles that appear in movies. Third, to analyze men's hairstyles by era i n movies, we analyze hairstyles in 42 films, 7 films per era, from the 1970s to the 2020s. Fourth, based on the results of the analysis of the work throu gh morphological analysis, we propose the production of a work that combines artistry and practicality. The research method involved analyzing the types and morphological characteristics of male hairstyles in films, as well as co nducting a study of the works through literature research and empirical anal ysis. The scope of the study was to investigate the design elements of men's hai rstyles in movies, utilizing prior research and internet materials, and cove ring the period from the 1970s to the 2020s. The design analysis of the data used morphological analysis. Morphological analysis is a method of analyzing various data from text using the matrix technique by listing the attributes of each factor on the horizontal and vertical axes to create a diagram and r ecording new factors in each cell to discover certain types, patterns, or te ndencies (Weber, 1990). In this study, we considered it to be very meaningfu l to conduct research by analyzing data on men's hairstyles and decided to a dopt it. In hair design, hair is divided into short, medium, and long types according to its length, and the overall design is made according to this le ngth. Data analysis was conducted using prior research and Naver image searc h (naver.com). To conduct an objective data analysis, a group of four expert s was selected: two with more than 10 years of experience in the beauty indu stry and more than 5 years of teaching experience, two with more than 5 year s of experience in the field and more than 5 years of teaching experience, a nd two with more than 10 years of experience in the field. The analysis by t he expert group looked at the shape (cut type, hair length) and overall styl e. The shape was subdivided into cut shape and hair length, and the cut shap e was classified into micro short style, short style, medium style, and long style. Men's hairstyles must satisfy both the needs of the stylist and the client, so we selected the shortest micro-short, short, medium, and long styles. The selection criteria are as follows: In the 1970s, the most common hair position types were T.P and G.P with 6 each, followed by 3 each of B.P and N.P, 1 each of micro short, and 3 each of short and medium styles. However, long styles did not appear. In the 1980s, the most common hair positions were T.P and G.P, with 7 each, followed by textured hair with 5 short lengths, 4 medium lengths, and 2 long lengths. At this time, micro-short did not appear. In the 1990s, the hair positioning types were 7 T.P and 4 G.P, 4 texture styles, 2 colors, 2 micro-short, 4 short styles, 1 medium style, and no long style. In the 2000s, T.P. was the most common hair position with 7, G.P. with 5, while texture and color were derived with 2 each, and short lengths were derived with 4, medium 1, and long 2. Micro short hair did not appear at this time. In the 2010s, there were 7 T.P. and 4 G.P. hair position types, 4 texture styles, 2 colors (2 micro short, 4 short styles, 1 medium style), and no long styles. In the 2020s, the hair positioning types were 7 each for T.P and G.P, 3 for B..P and 2 for N.P. There were 4 styles, 2 colors, no micro-short, 3 short styles, 2 medium styles, and 2 long styles. Accordingly, the hair positions of T.P and G.P, which are unique to men's hair, were derived as 41 and 33, respectively, while B.P and N.P were derived as 13 and 12, respectively, and texture and color were derived as 16 and 9, and micro short was derived as 3, short cut as 23, and medium and long style as 8 each, and the work was created. This study demonstrated the practicality and artistry of hairdressing through analysis of men's hairstyle designs and the creation of works of art. The analysis of men's hairstyle designs, the purpose of this study, is highly meaningful and will likely be utilized in accordance with its objectives. However, based on the analysis results of the work production in this study, the men's hairstyles produced are evaluated somewhat differently in the process of intentionally creating the work and performing it, which can be seen as a difference in the subjective design or aesthetic judgment of the practitioner and the evaluator. Analysis of human visual art works is judged from a subjective perspective, and thus has limitations in that it cannot be analyzed from both domestic and international perspectives. However, the evaluation of the works in this study is considered to be a valuable study that can be utilized in both technical and educational aspects of the beauty industry.
