A Study on Wild Flower Hair Art Works Using LED Lighting Mun, Su-deok Advisor : Prof. Kim, Jin-Sook, Ph.D. Department of Beauty Science, Graduate School of Gwangju University This study aims to examine the artistic expansibility and technological convergence potential of contemporary hair art through the production of hair art works based on wild flower motifs incorporating LED elements. In this research, LEDs were utilized not merely as lighting devices but as expressive elements that visually extend the vitality, seasonality, and emotional imagery inherent in wild flowers. The structural characteristics of floral forms were combined with the color, arrangement, and illumination methods of LED light sources, thereby reinforcing sculptural patterns and enhancing emotional expression. While hair art has evolved beyond the domain of beauty into a field of sculptural and artistic creation, studies that simultaneously integrate natural motifs and lighting technology remain limited. Accordingly, this study proposes hair art works that combine LEDs with the formative characteristics and symbolic meanings of Korean wild flowers and analyzes their expressive effects. The research methodology integrates theoretical investigation and practical production. Through a review of prior literature, the concepts and formative and expressive characteristics of hair art were examined, and the ecological characteristics and contemporary interpretations of wild flowers were analyzed. In addition, the principles of light emission, color expression, and technical characteristics of LED lighting were investigated to establish a theoretical foundation for applying lighting elements to hair art. Based on this analysis, a total of ten wild flowers—Boksoocho, Mindungjebikkot, Dolmaehwa, Baramkkot, Keun Aengcho, Norugwi, Mulmangcho, Maebaltopkkot, Gujeolcho, and Geumgang Bommajikkot—were selected, and creative works were produced. Each work was designed with a focus on the form, color, and seasonal characteristics of the flower, while sculptural differentiation was achieved by varying the type and structural arrangement of the LED elements. In the production process, circuits were designed on canvas using single-color LEDs and RGB LEDs, and LED structures were constructed through soldering and switch control methods. Subsequently, three-dimensional hair pieces made from recycled human hair were produced and fixed, allowing the diffusion and illumination effects of light to organically integrate with the sculptural characteristics of the floral forms. Through this process, a total of ten hair art works were completed. The results indicate that LED illumination functions as a visual element that enhances the vitality and symbolic meaning of wild flowers, and that the atmosphere and emotional perception of the works vary according to the lighting state. Furthermore, hair art incorporating LED elements demonstrates potential for application across various artistic fields, including exhibitions, stage performances, and fashion. This study is expected to serve as foundational research for future convergence-oriented hair art design and academic discourse by integrating natural motifs and lighting technology.
