    ABSTRACT

    Intelligent Building Construction and Human Quality of Life: A Human-Centered Digilog Paradigm

    This study aims to establish a theory of 'human-centered digilog architecture' that balances technology and emotion by applying the concept of digilog proposed by Lee Eo-ryeong (2006) to the field of architecture, in a situation where intelligent buildings developed with a focus on technological efficiency since the 4th Industrial Revolution have revealed limitations in terms of user satisfaction. The purpose and necessity of this study are to establish a theory of 'human-centered digilog architecture' that balances technology and emotion. The results derived from this study are intended to establish theoretical and practical foundational data for future human-centered design and practical application of intelligent buildings. As a specific research method, data was collected from a total of 15 people, including 10 architecture and interior design experts, 3 IT development and planning experts, and 2 civil engineering and construction experts, over a period of approximately 2 months from May 1 to June 30, 2025, through a structured questionnaire to ask them about their opinions on the digital direction of intelligent buildings. The collected data was analyzed using qualitative content analysis techniques, and the analysis results were visualized using word cloud techniques. This study was structured around the conceptual characteristics of digital logs to establish intelligent buildings and the direction of human quality of life. The research subjects were 15 field-oriented experts in architectural design, interior design, IT development, and civil engineering, and the results were derived through qualitative content analysis.
    First, the core values ​​of the convergence of intelligent architecture and digital sensibility were derived from factors such as ‘harmony of aesthetics and analog sensibility,’ ‘intuitive usability and user experience-centered interface,’ and ‘structural stability and flexible spatial composition.’ Second, factors that were considered in the digital environment and the well-being of residents were identified as ‘emotional elements centered on natural materials,’ ‘emotional regulation through lighting, color, and sensory environment,’ and ‘personally centered customized digital environment.’ Third, the core values ​​of intelligent technology application and human autonomy privacy were derived from factors such as ‘strengthening user control and data anonymity,’ ‘design for spatial division and privacy protection,’ and ‘technology non-visualization and human-centered integrated design.’ Fourth, the factors identified for the task of building human-centered digital intelligent buildings include ‘the conflict between technological complexity and human-centeredness,’ ‘the problem of usage variation due to user diversity,’ and ‘the limitations of design centered on protecting individual privacy.’ Fifth, the core values ​​of traditional inheritance and cultural identity were derived from factors such as ‘preservation of traditional context and modern reinterpretation,’ ‘strengthening the relationship between analog sensibility and memory,’ and ‘digital design based on space utilization.’ Sixth, the strategic factors for sustainable space innovation centered on digital logging were identified as ‘smart energy management and resource circulation space design,’ ‘passive design eco-friendly space composition,’ and ‘eco-friendly material-centered space structure design.’ Seventh, the factors for the psychological and sensory-centered spatial design elements of the digital space were derived as ‘emotional stability based on analog sensibility’, ‘harmony of sensory stimulation and user-responsive environment’, and ‘psychological comfort of spatial structure’. Eighth, the interaction factors between intelligent buildings and human quality of life were identified as ‘smart environmental control centered on personal health and well-being,’ ‘social interaction community activation space,’ and ‘psychological recovery based on natural elements.’ Ninth, factors related to AI-based customized space design and quality of life were identified as ‘optimization of personalized environments based on biometric data,’ ‘optimization of space efficiency and energy/traffic flow,’ and ‘auxiliary roles of safety and privacy.’ Tenth, the key factors for the direction of intelligent buildings based on digital logs were identified as ‘human-centered emotional design philosophy,’ ‘data-based customized co-creation,’ and ‘expertise centered on environmental integration capabilities.’
    The direction of intelligent architecture and the quality of human life is achieved not only through technological efficiency but also through a balance with human emotions. The architectural application of the Digilog concept represents a new paradigm for future spatial intelligence and a practical strategy for restoring user-centered values.
