Flowers begin as simple leaves before their splendid appearance. Plants transform the structure and function of leaves to create flowers for reproduction, accumulating energy during this process to form floral organs. When the blooming season arrives, the accumulated energy is released in an instant, causing the flowers to burst forth explosively. From the moment leaves begin to differentiate into flowers until full bloom, though invisible to the eye, they continuously radiate a powerful vitality to propagate the next generation. In this growth process, one can feel the wonder of nature bringing forth life. The researcher aimed to express the intensity of flowers bursting forth with vitality as jewelry, capturing elements such as petals, sepals, pistils, and stamens, the fruits of the flower's growth.
Observing flowers, the folds and bends that emerge during the transformation from leaf to flower align with the sculptural characteristics of paper sculpture. These characteristics were recognized as a means of interpreting the flower sculpturally and materializing its flow. Thus, paper modeling was employed as the core sculptural method, reinterpreting the flower's elements to determine the final form. Unlike conventional paper modeling, which serves as a preliminary step to preview the finished shape, it functions as the central process guiding the entire work and the derivation of the final form, developing sculptural thinking through the reconstruction of form. Furthermore, bending and folding, two paper sculpture techniques, proved suitable for implementation with metal sheets and were adopted as core techniques. In particular, the volume and structural tension generated during bending play a crucial role in conveying the vitality perceived in the flowers. In this process, the detailed features of the flowers are simplified, and the free-flowing lines are transformed into straight, clear lines, solidly revealing the flowers' soft image.
The subsequent forms were constructed through repetition. Symmetrical, gradual, and irregular repetition reveal images accumulated during the flower's growth. Symmetrical repetition creates a simple yet powerful visual order, while gradual(漸移) repetition produces an effect in which the form expands and increases in density. Irregular repetition reveals a dynamic, natural, and unique sense of rhythm. In the process of realizing these repetition-based forms in metal, even the thin 0.4 mm sheet metal develops surface expansion through bending and folding stresses. This more vividly conveys the flower's bursting vitality, while the metal's rigid physical properties further emphasize it.
The finished form is made into jewelry, repeatedly experienced within the everyday gaze, and transforms the perception of flowers into a new sensory experience. This encourages viewers to perceive flowers, once regarded as fragile creations, as distinctive beings endowed with powerful vitality. Furthermore, it can serve as an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the intense essence of life inherent in natural objects anew.
