이를 위해 본 연구는 fNIRS(functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy: 기능적 근 적외선 분광기)를 활용하여 소비자의 배외측전전두피질(dlPFC) 활성화 정도를 측정하 였다.

This study examines the effectiveness of short-form advertising, which has
rapidly emerged as a core format in digital advertising, by integrating
cognitive psychological mechanisms with neuroscientific responses.
Specifically, it investigates the effects of advertising scenes that stimulate
consumers’ episodic memory on advertising effectiveness in short-form
    advertisements.
To this end, functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) was employed to
measure consumers’ dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) activation during
ad exposure. A 2 (presence of episodic memory–stimulating scenes: yes vs.
no) × 2 (placement of the key message: product usage scene vs. non-usage
scene) factorial experimental design was adopted. The participants were 85
undergraduate students enrolled at universities in Seoul.
The results indicated that episodic memory–stimulating scenes had a
positive effect on purchase intention. This effect was further strengthened
when the key message was presented within the product usage scene.
However, episodic memory–stimulating scenes did not have a significant
effect on advertising recall or brand attitude. In addition, neither the effect
of episodic memory–stimulating scenes on purchase intention nor the
interaction effect with key message placement was mediated by dlPFC
    activation during ad viewing.
These findings suggest that the limited exposure duration inherent in
short-form advertising may constrain higher-order cognitive processing,
leading to the predominance of affective responses rather than deliberate
cognitive evaluation. Nevertheless, the interaction effect related to key
message placement implies a potential interplay between episodic and
semantic memory processes. From this perspective, short-form advertising
may influence long-term brand perception through the integration of
emotional responses and memory mechanisms, although further research is
    required to validate this proposition.
This study contributes academically by extending advertising effectiveness
research beyond traditional self-report measures through the empirical
assessment of consumers’ unconscious neural responses. Furthermore, it
provides practical implications for optimizing short-form advertising
production strategies and for utilizing short-form advertising in long-term
    branding efforts.
