This study examines the effect of radio listening perception and positive psychological capital on the quality of life of the old adults, and verifies whether flow acts as a mediating variable in this process. The results of analyzing the questionnaire data for 215 people over the age of 65 who use the Jeonju-based welfare center are as follows. First, radio listening perception had a direct effect on the quality of life, which means that positive perceptions such as informativity, emotional comfort, and social connection that the old adults feel through radio are directly connected to life satisfaction and happiness. This suggests that radio is not just a medium, but a medium that performs emotional and relational welfare functions.
Second, the direct effect of positive psychological capital shows that an individual's internal psychological resources are a key factor in improving the quality of life regardless of the external environment. Elderly people with high hope, optimism, self-efficacy, and resilience feel higher satisfaction in the radio listening experience, and this psychological capital works as an internal energy that strengthens the overall quality of life.
Third, the fact that the indirect effect of radio listening factors and positive psychological capital on the quality of life through flow was significant shows that the positive perception of radio listening and psychological capital improve the quality of life more strongly through the psychological state of 'flow' experienced during listening. In other words, flow acts as a mediating path between the influence of external stimuli (radio awareness) and internal resources (positive psychological capital), and the higher the quality of listening experience, the better the quality of life.
This study is meaningful in providing basic data on radio broadcasting that contributes to improving the quality of life of the old adults.
