    This study aimed to investigate the effects of a balance exercise program combined with visual-perceptual training on balance ability in older adults.
    Methods: A total of 42 community-dwelling older adults aged 65 years or older participated in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=20) and a control group (n=22). All participants were able to walk independently, scored 24 or higher on the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K), had no visual or oculomotor impairments, and voluntarily consented to participate. The intervention was conducted three times per week for four weeks, totaling 12 sessions. The visual-perceptual training consisted of saccadic eye movements (week 1), smooth pursuit eye movements (week 2), vestibulo-ocular movements (week 3), and vergence eye movements (week 4). The balance exercise program was progressively organized by week: static balance training in week 1, dynamic balance training in week 2, reactive balance training in week 3, and complex balance tasks in week 4.
    Outcome measures included the Motor-Free Visual Perception Test-3 (MVPT-3), Fullerton Advanced Balance (FAB) Scale, Korean Falls Efficacy Scale–International (KFES-I), Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSST), and Functional Reach Test (FRT). All assessments were conducted by the same examiner before and after the intervention, with pre-test results blinded to minimize bias.
    Results: After the intervention, the experimental group that performed the balance exercise program combined with visual-perceptual training showed significant improvements in visual-perceptual ability(p<.05), static and dynamic balance(p<.05), and physical function(p<.05) compared with the control group. These findings suggest that incorporating visual-perceptual training into balance exercises is an effective intervention strategy for improving balance ability and reducing the risk of falls in older adults.
