Technological Training for Air Traffic Controllers – Case Study: Ecuador

      Mireya Elizabeth Escalante Codena
      Aviation Policy Program
The Graduate School Korea Aerospace University
      Advisor: Assistant Prof. Hyunjee Kim

The aviation industry is developing rapidly, and air traffic controller training must keep pace with these developments. In Ecuador, the need to modernize training is particularly acute due to the
country's challenging airspace, growing traffic, and international safety requirements. This thesis examines how emerging technologies could improve the current training system. The study is
based on literature, three international case studies, and a national survey. The results show that many air traffic controllers feel that the current training is inadequate, but they are positive about new technologies. VR, AI and e-learning are seen as increasing the realism, efficiency, and
flexibility of training, which is also confirmed by international examples. The study provides a
concise overview of how emerging technologies can support the development of air traffic
controller training in Ecuador and improve aviation safety in the future.
