    This study investigates the structural diversity and spatiotemporal development of Geomdan-ri–type burials in the southeastern coastal region of the Korean Peninsula during the Bronze Age. By examining burial attributes, establishing a typological classification and chronology, and analyzing spatial distribution patterns at multiple scales, the research aims to clarify how these burials were formed and positioned within settlement landscapes.
    The Geomdan-ri type represents a regional Bronze Age cultural tradition centered on the southeastern coast, characterized by Geomdan-ri–style pottery and Ulsan-style pit dwellings. Previous studies have largely focused on small stone cist tombs and dolmens, leaving the broader diversity and spatial context of burial practices insufficiently explored. This study addresses this gap by reviewing all available data on Geomdan-ri–type burials and classifying burial structures based on attributes such as chambers, ditches, precincts, and plan forms. The results confirm that the burial assemblage includes not only stone cist tombs and dolmens but also ditch-enclosed tombs and dolmens with burial precincts, indicating greater variability in mortuary practices than previously recognized.
    Chronological analysis, incorporating both grave goods and artifacts from contemporaneous residential contexts, demonstrates that Geomdan-ri–type burials were intensively constructed from the late Early Bronze Age through the Late Bronze Age, with burial forms becoming increasingly diversified over time. Spatial analysis reveals that, at the supra-regional scale, burials are distributed throughout the southeastern coastal region, with a marked increase in number during the later Bronze Age, particularly along major river basins such as the Hyeongsan River, Taehwa River, and Daejong Stream.
    At the regional scale, distinct differences emerge among these basins. The Hyeongsan River basin is characterized by the expansion of dolmens with burial precincts during the late Bronze Age, whereas the Daejong Stream and Taehwa River basins show a concentration of ditch-enclosed tombs at specific locations. Local-scale analysis further highlights contrasting spatial strategies: in Dogye-ri and Cheongun, burial grounds were separated from residential areas and placed at prominent locations, functioning as symbolic centers expressing community authority and cohesion; in contrast, at Maegok and Sanha-dong, burial areas were integrated into daily living spaces or connected through alluvial terraces, reinforcing communal solidarity and serving as regional focal points.
    In conclusion, this study demonstrates that Geomdan-ri–type burials were not merely mortuary facilities but integral elements of settlement landscapes that reflected social organization, community identity, and regional differentiation. Despite limitations in dating and spatial interpretation for some cases, the research provides a comprehensive framework for understanding Bronze Age burial practices in southeastern Korea and offers a basis for comparison with contemporaneous cultural traditions in other regions of the Korean Peninsula.
