국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 비오 성인이 고통에 대해서 깊은 성찰과 영적 깨달음에 대한 깊은 감명에서 이 연구를 시작하였다. 이는 신앙인들에게 고통을 어떻게 이해하고 받아들여야 하는지 신학적 통찰을 기여한다. 이에 본 논고는 비오 성인의 고통이 그리스도교 신학 안에서 고통이 지니는 깊은 의미와 영성 신학적 함의를 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 연구의 첫 부분에는 고통에 대한 성경의 어원적 의미를 바탕으로 고통에 대해 알아볼 것이다. 구약과 신약의 나타난 어원적 의미와 성경적 해석을 바탕으로 고통이 단순히 육체적 고난이나 죄에 대한 벌이 아니라 하느님과 일치로 나아가는 도구임을 확인할 수 있을 것이다. 이어서 비오 성인의 생애에 드러난 고통 체험에 대한 영성 신학적 분석을 통해 성인이 겪은 육체적‧정신적 고통이 하느님의 뜻에 따른 대속적 희생임을 밝히고, 하느님과의 깊은 일치로 나아가는 구원의 과정임을 논증할 것이다. 특히 비오 성인이 심장이 꿰뚫리는 현상과 오상의 고통을 통해 고통이 단순한 시련이 아니라 하느님의 사랑을 체험하는 구원사업에 동참하는 은총의 사건임을 제시할 것이다. 마지막으로 본 연구는 비오 성인의 고통에 대한 의미를 그리스도교 신자들에게 어떤 의미를 주는지 알아보며 마무리 할 것이다. 따라서 본 논문은 그리스도인들이 고통을 새로운 신앙적 차원에서 받아들이고 이를 통해 하느님과의 일치를 추구하며 성화의 길로 나아가도록 하는 영성 신학적 통찰을 제공할 것이다.

This thesis originates from a deep impression and spiritual inspiration gained from Padre Pio’s profound reflection on suffering. It aims to offer theological insight into how believers can understand and accept suffering from a Christian perspective. The central purpose of this study is to examine the deep meaning and spiritual theological implications of suffering as experienced by Padre Pio within the broader context of Christian theology.
The first part of the study explores the etymological meaning of suffering based on biblical foundations. Through an analysis of the Old and New Testaments, the study reveals that suffering is not merely physical pain or punishment for sin but can serve as a path toward union with God.
The second part presents a spiritual-theological analysis of Padre Pio’s experiences of suffering throughout his life. It argues that the physical and psychological suffering endured by the saint represents a redemptive sacrifice aligned with the will of God and a process of salvation that leads to profound union with Him. In particular, through the phenomenon of the transverberation of the heart and the stigmata, the study highlights that suffering is not simply a trial but a grace-filled event that allows participation in God’s salvific work and an experience of divine love.
Finally, the study explores the implications of Padre Pio’s understanding of suffering for contemporary Christians. It seeks to offer spiritual-theological insight that encourages believers to embrace suffering from a renewed perspective of faith, thereby fostering deeper union with God and progressing along the path of sanctification.
