아씨시 성 프란치스코의 형제애에 관한 영성신학적 고찰 = (A) Theological Reflection on the Fraternity of St. Francis of Assisi

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 가톨릭교회의 성인들 가운데 형제애의 모범으로 잘 알려진 아씨시 성 프란치스코의 형제애에 관한 연구이다. 프란치스코가 살았던 중세 12-13세기와 마찬가지로 현대 사회에서도 형제애의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 이러한 시대적 맥락에서 교황 프란치스코는 회칙 「모든 형제들」(Fratelli Tutti)을 발표하고 형제애의 중요성을 강조하였다. 평소 “형제애”라는 주제에 특별한 관심을 가지고 있던 필자는, 성 프란치스코와 교황 프란치스코의 형제애 영성의 영향으로 본 연구를 시작하게 되었다.
제1장에서 형제애의 용어적, 성서적, 교회적 의미에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 형제애의 그리스도교적 의미와 프란치스칸적 의미로 구분하여 살펴볼 것이다. 구약 성경과 신약 성경에 나타난 형제애의 의미를 살펴보고 특히, 예수 그리스도와 초기 교회 공동체의 형제애를 고찰할 것이다. 이어서 제2차 바티칸공의회와 교황들의 문헌에서 강조한 형제애가 무엇인지 대해서도 살펴볼 것이다. 특히, 교황 프란치스코의 회칙 「모든 형제들」(Fratelli Tutti)에 나타난 형제애의 의미와 성 프란치스코 형제애의 영성적 맥락을 짚어보고자 한다.
제2장에서는 성 프란치스코로 하여금 형제애를 살게 한 시대적 배경을 간략히 살펴볼 것이다. 그러고 나서 성인이 남겨놓은 글들과 전기들을 중심으로 프란치스코의 삶에서 나타난 형제애를 고찰할 것이다. 특히, 회칙과 권고에서 강조하고 있는 형제애가 무엇인지 중점적으로 연구하고자 한다.
제3장에서는 앞서 연구한 내용을 토대로 프란치스코 형제애 신학의 기초와 프란치스코로 하여금 형제애를 살게 한 토대와 구조를 밝혀보고자 한다. 이를 위하여 프란치스코가 지향한 형제애로서 삼위일체 하느님의 사랑과 육화하신 하느님의 가난을 고찰하고, 형제애를 살게 한 두 개의 기둥인 순종과 가난에 대해서 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고 프란치스코가 살아낸 형제애에서 나타난 특징으로 무상성, 평등성, 상호성, 기쁨, 자비에 대해서 알아보고자 한다.
마지막 제4장에서 성 프란치스코 형제애 연구의 결과를 종합하고자 한다. 형제애의 필요성과 실천방법은 교회의 가르침을 통해서 지속적으로 제시해왔기에, 본 논문에서는 성 프란치스코 형제애의 구조와 원리를 파악하고, 그의 형제애가 지닌 함의를 밝히는 것으로 만족할 것이다. 이로써 그리스도교 형제애의 본질에 한 걸음 더 다가가게 될 것이다.
본 논문은, 열린 형제애의 모범인 아씨시 성 프란치스코의 영성과 삶을 재조명함으로써 그리스도교 형제애의 영성적 가치를 되살리는데 의의를 두었다. 또한, 가난하고 소외된 이들이 존재하는 현대 사회에서 연대와 공동체 의식을 강화하는데 기여하고자 한다. 현대 그리스도인의 형제애를 전망하는데 있어서도 유의미한 연구가 될 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines the fraternal love of St. Francis of Assisi, a renowned example of fraternity among Catholic saints. Just as in the 12th and 13th centuries when Francis lived, the need for fraternity is being raised in modern society. In this context, Pope Francis issued the encyclical Fratelli Tutti and emphasized the importnce of fraternity. Having always had a special interest in the topic of "fraternity" the author began this study under the influence of the fraternal spirituality of St. Francis and Pope Francis.
In Chapter 1, we will examine the terminological, biblical, and ecclesial meanings lf fraternity. We will examine the Christian and Franciscan meanings of fraternity. We will examine the meaning of frternity as it appears in the Old and New Testaments, particularly the fraternity of Jesus Christ and the the early church community. We will then examine the emphasis on fraternity in the documents of the Second Vatican Council and the papal documents. In particular, we will examine the meaning of fraternity as it appears in Pope Francis` encyclical Fratelli Tutti and the spiritual context of the fraternity of St. Francis.
In Chapter 2, we will briefly examine the historical context that inspired St. Francis to live a life of fraternity. Then, focusing on the writings and biographies he left behind, we will examine the fraternity evident in Francis` life. In particular, we will focus on the fraternity emphasized in his Rules and Exhortations.
In Chapter 3, building on the previously discussed, I will examine the foundations of Francis`s theology of fraternity and the foundation and structure that enabled him to live out fraternity. To this end, I will examine the fraternity Francis pursued-the love of the Triune God and the poverty of the incarnate God-and examine the two pillars that fostered fraternity: obedience and poverty. Furthermore, I will examine the characteristics of fraternity Francis embodied: gratuitousness, equality, reciprocity, joy, and mercy.
In the final Chapter 4, I will summarize the results of my research on the Fraternity of St. Francis, Since the necessity of fraternity and the method of its practices have been continuously presented through the teachings of the Church, this paper will identify the structure and principles of the Fraternity of St. Francis and the meaning of his Fraternity. We will be content to clarify the truth. This will bring us one step closer to the essence of Christian fraternity.
This paper aims to revive the spiritual values of Christian fraternity by reexamining the spirituality and life of St. Francis of Assisi, a model of open fraternity. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to strengthening solidarity and a sense of community in contemporary society, where the poor and marginalized exist. It will also be a meaningful study in exploring the future of fraternity in the modern world.
