한국수어통역사의 방송수어통역 경험에 관한 내러티브 연구 = A Narrative Study on the Experience of Broadcasting Sign Language Interpretation of Korean Sign Language Interpreters

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 디지털 미디어 환경 변화 속 방송수어통역사의 생생한 경험을 내러티브 방법론으로 탐구하였다. 방송수어통역 경력 5년 이상 현직 통역사 3명을 대상으로 반구조화 심층면담을 실시하여 수어 습득 및 방송 진입 과정, 수행 도전과 전문 역량, 품질 평가 및 사회적 가치에 관한 서사를 수집·분석하였다. 자료는 범주적 내용분석과 내러티브 해석을 통해 3개 중심주제로 주제화하였다.​
연구 결과, 첫째 수어통역사들은 가족·교회·모임 등 일상 맥락에서 학습 즐거움과 농인 대화 설렘을 동기로 삼아 지인 추천·우연적 자격증 취득을 통해 비계획적으로 방송 영역에 진입하였다. 둘째 실시간 방송의 집중력·판단력 요구와 소진 속에서 동료 협력·자기관리·표현 업그레이드로 전문성을 발전시켰다. 셋째 농인 피드백 중심 품질 관리와 정보권 보장 실천으로 공공적 가치를 인식하나 보상·제도 한계를 지적하였다.​
방송수어통역사는 단순 언어 전달자가 아닌 시각언어 재생산 주체로 개념화되며, 우연적 진입과 관계적 학습이 전문성 형성의 과정이 됨을 밝혔다. 이에 전문 교육 체계 구축, 방송수어통역 평가 개선, 제도적 지원 강화를 제언한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines broadcast sign language interpreters' lived experiences amid digital media changes via narrative inquiry. Three interpreters with over 5 years of experience underwent semi-structured in-depth interviews on sign language acquisition and entry, performance challenges and expertise development, and interpretation quality and social value. Data were analyzed categorically and narratively, yielding three themes.
Findings show: (1) non-systematic entry into broadcasting through family, church, and community gatherings, motivated by the joy of learning and with Deaf individuals via peer advice or chance certification; (2) expertise development amid real-time demands and burnout through collaboration, self-care, and expressive upgrades; (3) quality achieved via self-study and Deaf feedback, viewing interpreting as public service for Deaf rights, while critiquing compensation and institutions.
Interpreters are reconceptualized as visual language reconstructors, not mere conduits. Serendipitous entry and relational learning drivers of professional expertise formation; recommendations include professional training, improved broadcasting evaluations, and institutional support.
