Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of nursing workload, nursing work environment, and patient safety culture on patient safety nursing activities using hierarchical multiple regression analysis.
Methods: The participants were 156 nurses who were currently working in emergency rooms and had at least six months of work experience.
Data were collected using an online questionnaire from August 4 to August 28, 2025. The data were analyzed using t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple linear regression using the SPSS/WIN 31.0 program.
Results: The mean score of patient safety nursing activities, nursing workload, nursing work environment and patient safety culture was 4.40±0.34, 3.23±0.97, 3.01±0.63 and 3.65±0.47. patient safety nursing activities were positively correlated with the nursing work environment (r=.39, p<.001) and patient safety culture (r=.36, p<.001). Factors related to the patient safety nursing activities were patient safety education experience (β=.34, p<.001) and nursing workload (β=.08, p=.009). These factors explained 36.5% of patient safety nursing activities.
Conclusion: This study identified patient safety education experience and nursing work intensity as significant factors influencing patient safety nursing activities among emergency room nurses. These findings suggest that strengthening patient safety education and providing organizational support to manage nursing work intensity are important for enhancing patient safety nursing activities in the emergency room.
