This study aimed to investigate the effects of a dance-integrated Otago exercise program on balance, mobility, quality of life (QoL), and exercise enjoyment (PACES) among community-dwelling older adults. As aging populations face increased risks of falls and reduced physical independence, it is crucial to develop enjoyable, functionally effective interventions that enhance both physical and psychosocial well-being. Thirty participants aged 65 years and older were randomly assigned to either a control group performing the traditional Otago exercise program (n=15) or an experimental group participating in a dance-integrated version that incorporated music, rhythm, and expressive movement. The study employed a randomized controlled pretest–posttest experimental design, implemented twice a week for four weeks (eight sessions in total). Participants were randomly allocated using a simple lottery draw to ensure equal group sizes. Outcome measures included the berg balance scale (BBS), functional reach test (FRT), timed up and go (TUG), quality of life (QoL), and physical activity enjoyment scale (PACES). Two-way repeated-measures ANOVA revealed significant time×group interactions for TUG and QoL, indicating greater improvements in the experimental group. BBS and PACES showed significant time effects in both groups, whereas FRT did not reach statistical significance. These results suggest that integrating rhythmic and expressive dance elements into the Otago program enhances mobility, balance control, and overall enjoyment of physical activity, ultimately improving older adults’ functional capacity and perceived quality of life. Despite its short intervention period and limited follow-up, this study highlights the potential of dance-based balance training as an engaging and effective fall-prevention strategy for older adults.
