A Study on to reveal the intrinsic mechanism through which entrepreneurship education for sports majors influences college students' entrepreneurial intentions, this study focuses on the chain mediating effects of entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial self-efficacy, constructing a mediating model and conducting empirical tests. Based on social cognitive theory, planned behavior theory, and other relevant frameworks, three core hypotheses are proposed: Entrepreneurship education for sports majors has a significant positive impact on college students' entrepreneurial intentions (H1); Entrepreneurial knowledge plays a mediating role between the two (H2); Entrepreneurial self-efficacy plays a mediating role between the two (H3), which is further refined into six sub-hypotheses.
The study adopts a questionnaire survey method, distributing questionnaires to 1,230 sports major college students from 11 provinces in China via the Wenjuanxing platform. After screening, 820 valid samples are obtained, with an effective response rate of 66.67%. The questionnaire draws on mature scales developed by scholars such as Zhao Leiting (2019) and Mao Yu (2008), and is optimized through a pre-survey. It ultimately includes four dimensions: entrepreneurship education for sports majors (6 items), entrepreneurial knowledge (10 items), entrepreneurial self-efficacy (16 items), and college students' entrepreneurial intentions (5 items), all measured using a 5-point Likert scale. SPSSAU is employed for reliability and validity tests, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM) verification. The results show that the standardized Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale reaches 0.981, the KMO value is 0.797, and the cumulative variance explanation rate is 75.67%, indicating excellent reliability and validity. Correlation analysis reveals that entrepreneurship education for sports majors is significantly positively correlated with entrepreneurial knowledge (r=0.797), entrepreneurial self-efficacy (r=0.613), and college students' entrepreneurial intentions (r=0.526) (all p<0.01).
Regression analysis and Bootstrap mediation tests demonstrate that entrepreneurship education for sports majors has a significant direct positive impact on college students' entrepreneurial intentions (β=0.475, p<0.01), supporting H1. In the mediating path of entrepreneurial knowledge, entrepreneurship education for sports majors exerts a significant positive effect on entrepreneurial knowledge (β=0.761, p<0.01), and entrepreneurial knowledge has a significant positive impact on college students' entrepreneurial intentions (β=0.550, p<0.01), with an indirect effect value of 0.418 (95% CI: 0.266~0.436), validating H2. In the mediating path of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, entrepreneurship education for sports majors significantly positively influences entrepreneurial self-efficacy (β=0.538, p<0.01), and entrepreneurial self-efficacy significantly positively affects college students' entrepreneurial intentions (β=0.530, p<0.01), with an indirect effect value of 0.171 (95% CI: 0.130~0.242), confirming H3. The SEM fitting results further verify the relationships among variables, with all standardized path coefficients being significant (p<0.01).
Study conclusions: The promoting effect of entrepreneurship education for sports majors on college students' entrepreneurial intentions operates through both a direct path and two indirect paths: "entrepreneurship education for sports majors → entrepreneurial knowledge → college students' entrepreneurial intentions" and "entrepreneurship education for sports majors → entrepreneurial self-efficacy → college students' entrepreneurial intentions". Entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial self-efficacy together form a chain mediating mechanism. This study provides theoretical support and practical references for universities to optimize the curriculum system of entrepreneurship education for sports majors, strengthen the imparting of entrepreneurial knowledge and the cultivation of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, as well as promote the training of entrepreneurial talents in the sports industry.
