This study aimed to examine the effects of an elbow resistance exercise program on grip strength, pain perception, and exercise stress in youth baseball players. A total of 20 youth baseball players who had experienced elbow pain for more than 12 weeks participated in the study. Participants were divided into an exercise group (n=10), which performed the elbow resistance exercise program, and a control group (n=10), which did not participate in the program. The exercise group engaged in the elbow resistance exercise program three times per week, 60 minutes per session, for a total of 12 weeks. Both groups were assessed on grip strength, pain perception, and exercise stress before and after the intervention.
The results were as follows. First, grip strength significantly increased in the exercise group (p<.05), while no significant difference was observed in the control group. Second, pain perception significantly decreased in the exercise group (p<.001), whereas no significant change was found in the control group. Third, among the sub-factors of exercise stress, exercise anxiety significantly decreased in the exercise group (p<.001), with no significant change in the control group. Fourth, exercise self-efficacy significantly increased in the exercise group (p<.05), while no significant difference was observed in the control group.
These findings indicate that an elbow resistance exercise program is effective in improving grip strength, reducing pain perception, and alleviating exercise stress in youth baseball players.
