<Abstract>
With the deepening of exchanges between China and South Korea, societal demand for high-quality Korean-Chinese translation professionals continues to rise. However, at present, undergraduate-level Korean-Chinese translation instruction in Chinese universities remains predominantly textbook-centered and product-oriented. This approach places excessive emphasis on translation accuracy while overlooking learners’ problem awareness, strategic decision-making, and cognitive development during the translation process, thus hindering the comprehensive cultivation of students’ translation competence. To address these limitations, there is a clear need to adopt a learning-process-oriented teaching model that emphasizes authentic language materials and strategic competence development.
Grounded in cognitive apprenticeship theory and process-oriented translation pedagogy, this study introduces parallel texts as core instructional resources and develops a Korean-Chinese translation teaching model tailored to the undergraduate context in Chinese higher education. Employing an action research design, the study conducted two iterative cycles of implementation and refinement within real classroom settings. Data were collected from multiple sources—including translation tasks, translation logs, classroom observations, and semi-structured interviews—to systematically analyze changes in students’ translation processes and performance outcomes.
Findings indicate that the parallel-text-based teaching model effectively enhances students’ focus on the translation process and improves their linguistic proficiency, strategic competence, syntactic transformation skills, and tool utilization abilities. Over time, students transition from dependence on instructor guidance to independently analyzing source texts and making evidence-based translation decisions. Their revision practices become more reasoned, and their awareness of justifying translation choices becomes markedly stronger. Furthermore, the integration of parallel texts helps mitigate issues related to content repetitiveness and outdated materials commonly found in traditional textbooks, offering learners more authentic, timely, and diverse linguistic input.
In conclusion, this study demonstrates that a process-oriented, parallel-text-supported translation teaching model is both feasible and educationally valuable for undergraduate Korean-Chinese translation courses in Chinese universities. The findings not only contribute a practical framework for curriculum reform but also provide empirical support for fostering students’ process awareness and strategic problem-solving capabilities in translation learning.
