The transition from traditional television services to digital streaming platforms has significantly impacted our society and industries, particularly the media industry has been affected because now users have abandoned pay television services in favor of over-the-top (OTT) platforms. This research examines whether the usage of OTT platforms influences the cord-cutting behavior of consumers in South Korea. By applying the multivariate probit (MVP) model, this study analyzes how factors such as device connectivity, genre types and video resolution are contributing to this shift. Additionally, this research also explores the market competitiveness between those two medias, by identifying and analyzing their relationship and correlations in the market. Furthermore, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the evolving media landscape in South Korea and offers valuable implications for policymakers and industry stakeholders.
