This study aims to investigate the primary factors affecting learning motivation, thereby deriving pedagogical implications to enhance learner motivation. For this purpose, the research analyzes the learning motivation and motivational influencing factors of Chinese students engaged in Korean language acquisition. This study is organized into five main chapters, each addressing theoretical backgrounds related to learning motivation, research methodology, empirical analysis, results, and discussions.
Chapter 1 explains the purpose, necessity, scope, and methods of the study. The aim of this research is to identify and analyze the factors that influence learning motivation and changes in motivation among Chinese learners of Korean. In this chapter, the limitations of previous studies are examined, and research questions are established to address these gaps.
Chapter 2 addresses the theoretical background related to learning motivation. The motivation theories of Dörnyei (2001) and Ushioda (2009) are primarily used to explain concepts such as intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, demotivation, and remotivation. Additionally, this chapter reviews existing research on various motivational factors influencing motivation change, including learning environment, teaching methods, and the role of teachers, thereby establishing the theoretical foundation for this study.
Chapter 3 provides a detailed description of the research design and methodology. This study conducted a survey targeting Chinese learners of Korean and developed two distinct measurement tools: one for measuring motivational factors and another for measuring motivational influencing factors. The AMTB (Attitude/Motivation Test Battery) was used as the basis for creating the tool to measure motivational factors, while the tool to measure motivational influencing factors was developed based on motivation, demotivation, and remotivation factors. These tools were used to analyze the specific factors influencing learning motivation and changes in motivation.
Chapter 4 presents the results of the empirical analysis. The analysis identifies the key motivational factors experienced by Chinese learners of Korean. The study found that learning difficulties, teacher competence, and teaching methods all had significant positive correlations with overall motivation. Additionally, linear regression analysis and path verification revealed that only attitudes toward Korean, Koreans, and the Korean language and learning psychology factors had a significant positive influence on overall motivation.
Chapter 5 draws conclusions and provides educational implications based on the study's results. This study emphasizes the importance of factors influencing learning motivation and proposes educational strategies to maintain and enhance motivation. It also confirms the role of teachers and teaching methods in affecting learning motivation and provides foundational data for developing effective motivational strategies. The study contributes to the future identification of demotivating factors and proposes educational measures to increase learners' motivation.
In conclusion, this study empirically analyzes various factors influencing the learning motivation of Chinese learners of Korean and contributes both theoretically and practically to preventing motivation decline and promoting motivation recovery and enhancement.
