ESG 뉴스의 감성과 기업 재무성과와의 상관관계 = Corporate ESG News Sentiment and Financial Performance

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 ESG는 사람들의 가장 큰 관심사 중 하나이다. ESG 경영은 기업의 비재무적인 요소를 통해 기업의 지속적인 성장을 추구하는 경영을 의미한다. 본 연구는 ESG 와 관련된 뉴스의 감성이 기업의 재무성과에 어떤 영향을 주는지에 대해서 보여준다. ESG 뉴스의 감성과 기업의 재무성과에 대한 분석을 진행하기 위해 국내 포털사이트인 네이버의 사회면의 뉴스들을 크롤링하였다. 그리고 해당 뉴스가 ESG 뉴스인지 또는 ESG 뉴스가 아닌지를 분류하기 위해 ESG Lexicon을 생성하였다. 여기서 더 나아가 ESG 뉴스에 대해 더 세부적인 토픽으로 나누기 위해 ESG 글로벌 이니셔티브인 SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board)의 세부 ESG 카테고리로 뉴스들을 분류한다. 이때에는 기업의 ESG 공시 Report 와 앞에서 분류한 ESG 뉴스들의 텍스트를 소스로 활용하여 SASB 세부 카테고리별 단어사전을 만드는데, 단어간의 연관성을 찾는 것에 유용한 자연어 처리 알고리즘인 Word2Vec을 활용한다. 그리고 뉴스의 감성을 분류하기 위해 자연어 처리 분야에서 높은 성능을 보이는 전이학습모델 BERT를 활용한다. 분석결과, ESG 뉴스들은 각 카테고리별로 기업의 재무성과에 미치는 영향이 상이하였다. 또한 ESG news 의 sentiment 가 기업의 재무성과에 미치는 영향에 산업군이 조절변수로써 작용할 수 있다는 것을 밝혀내었다. 해당 논문은 ESG 경영을 추진하고자하는 기업이나 관련 투자자들의 의사결정에 도움이 된다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Recently, ESG is one of the biggest interests of people. ESG management means management that pursues the sustainable growth of a company through non-financial factors of the company. This study shows how the sentiment of ESG news affects a company's financial performance. In order to analyze the sentiment of ESG news and the financial performance of companies, data was crawled social news from Naver News. And ESG Lexicon was created to classify whether the corresponding news is ESG news or not. To categorize ESG news into more detailed topics, we categorize them into detailed ESG categories of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), an ESG global initiative. In order to classify detailed categories, a SASB detailed category word dictionary is created using the company's ESG disclosure report and the text of the previously classified ESG news as a source. At this time, Word2Vec, a natural language processing algorithm useful for finding associations between words, is used. And to classify news sentiment, we use BERT, a transfer learning model that shows high performance in the field of natural language processing. As a result of the analysis, the impact of ESG news on corporate financial performance was different for each ESG category. In addition, it was found that the industry group had a moderating effect on the impact of ESG news sentiment on corporate financial performance. This study is meaningful in that it helps companies or related investors to make decisions to promote ESG management.
