In this paper, I will analyze Yim Jik-Soon's original, artistic quality and an influence on creating the climate of the artists' world through his works and life. These analyses were studied, according to the basic principle of art and social stand, and can be summarized as follows:
He devoted his lifetime to the deepening of the artistic presentation through education. These days, his contribution comes to a nutritive element of the artists' world of western paintings in other provinces as well as in Chulra-do. His instructive way of life and artistic world achievessuccess in transplanting the foreseeing mind of esthetic presentation.
First, the image represented in his works, though he tries to break from the scope of indigenous subject accustomed in his provincial life, derives from recurring to the ordinary and lyrical subject tangled at the bottom of man and nature. "Flowers and Woman", for example, which was a theme theated through out his life, gives superficially a very visionary and noble feeling. However; in a deeper sense, it is a conformity with man and nature and springs up spontaneously from warm character. In other words, it becomes a modern and centric object of presentation by leading image reduced noble wision to ordinary affection.
Second, the power of modeling in his works is formed by pure, autonomous will. The composition of most of his works is neither absolute nor restrictive. Form becomes a lump of colar, and it is represented as a conceptual melody. This characteristic of presentation has a homogeneous quality with the currents of modern paintings in highly suggestive composition and provides the method of its revival or succession.
Third, it is incorrect to narrow a general understanding of his works down to merely impressionistic technique. His works also contain apparent, ideological or impressionistic elements, but such elements only point out superficially in explaining the past, special phenomena of any painters. Impressionism only represents the relation between light and its impression. However, beyond this, Yim Jik-Soon forms an original style with an intellectual harmonious thing by modeling suggestively taste and form above a concomitant sense of color.
