As the infant has emerged rapidly as new users in AI speaker market recently, IT
companies have released a variety of AI service and products targeting those infant. Although
the release of AI speaker service targeting the infant has increased, there's a lack of research
on how the infant feel familiar with elements of AI devices and how they interact with.
Therefore, this study aims to analyze design elements of anthropomorphism applicable to
AI speaker targeting the infant and then, review difference in the human-likeness and
likeability the users recognize. After conducting the study on the infant's using behavior
based on preceding research related to the personification and digital Ethnography technique,
two elements of the personification interaction were detected: external and behavioral
elements. Then, the survey and follow-up interview were carried out with 102 and 10 school
parents respectively, regarding the satisfaction and awareness on AI speaker's service for
children. It's to obtain insight in detail as it's hard to find from infant and also, discover how
the school parents—the actual purchaser of infant's products—consider AI speaker. The
research findings show that 'satisfaction', 'perceived value' and 'trust' increased depending on
frequency of using AI speaker. Meanwhile, evaluation depended upon user's age. If the age
of infant increased, the 'satisfaction', 'perceived value' and 'trust' were likely to decrease. In
this study, AI speaker service was suggested based on such findings. When it comes to the
design process, the step 4 which is recognized as key in the 5 steps of making voice agent
proposed by Lyndon(2017) was reorganized to apply to this study. Then, the elements to be
considered in the interface design for the infant was reviewed while comping up with
interface guideline. Such findings means that category of anthropomorphism applicable to
Display-AI speaker could be diversified. This study has successfully come up with design
issue that needs to be considered in the conversational agent design.
