This study was conducted to big data analysis on packaging waste in order to suggest the future packaging waste policy to government. Big data analysis was conducted into two parts, one was quantitative analysis using the public data produced by the Ministry of Environment 's structured data and the other was qualitative analysis using unstructured data existing on the Internet. As big data analysis methods, graph analysis, principal component analysis, normality test, chi-square test, scatterometry analysis and regression analysis were used in quantitative analysis and keyword analysis, network analysis and CONCOR analysis were included in qualitative analysis.
Quantitative analysis showed that the price of waste that the government produced currently collected was not correlated to the recycling rate. Thus, it was necessary to collect data on packaged wastes that were highly correlated with recycling rates to predict future recycling rates. On the other hand, there was a correlation between each packaging waste price. Therefore, the nationwide price policy of waste should be prioritized over the regional price policies of waste.
The qualitative analysis showed that packaging waste was regarded as a major target for recycling. Therefore, it should be necessary to establish a package waste policy focusing on recycling policies. In addition, styrofoam, fluorescent light bulbs, lids, glass bottles and vinyl had been analyzed as major materials that have been difficult to separate out in the last three years. Therefore, there is a need to improve the method of discharging the packaging waste. Finally, since it had been shown that China's waste import policy gave a lot of impact on Korea, there is a need to lower the dependence on China's waste exports through new waste policy export.
