Rapid Urbanization process in Bangkok, Thailand, have raised many problems in urban development, economic growth, urban space, urban expansion and the construction caused the area of urban space is gradually disappearing. This thesis aims to analysis the lost space area focus on under elevated structures for Urban Regeneration in downtown Bangkok and to find factors that influent the development of lost space. At the present, it is shown that the lost space areas are involved in social and economics of Bangkok. The perception of lost space can provide new insights to better manage urban space and to cope with the problem of urban lost space. The study emphasizes the significance of urban regeneration as a instrument that can be utilized in the urban transformation process.
The research sought to analyze lost space area focus on under elevated structures to find out whether the people satisfied with it or if not how can do for an improving. The study was conducted through document review, interview experts, observation, questionnaire and acquired documentation on the case studies from the official websites of the related institutions.
This reseearch examine whether there is lost space under elevated structuress around downtown area in Bangkok and find the people’s thought to identify important elements which make good public space and evaluate the uses of lost space. The areas in downtown Bangkok have a lot of lost spaces that need to be improved. These are all worth renovating for multiple uses.
From data analysis, the research found that most of the respondents consider that there is necessity to regenerate the use of lost space under elevated structures. The urban regeneration of the abandoned areas might require modification of use activities, improvement of physical environment for esthetic needs and attractions. Urban Regeneration is an important key for transforming places for the better city and connects with surrounding areas.
Although, the regulations about the using of these spaces do not provide many options, but I hope that through this thesis can examine the public opinion so that in the future plan may be there are opportunities to have better use the space under elevated structures and to bring some new ideas to explore the reutilization of lost space planning.
