This study suggested the direction of color education on the basis of personal color by applying diagnosis and analysis of personal color to the class in specialized high school. The purpose of this study is to foster high school students’ competence of dealing with colors and to reinforce their insight into color. Also, it aims to propose the curriculum for color education. Conclusions drawn from this study are as follows.
First, students were much interested in personal color and colors. However, it was identified that in practice, there are few not only classes regarding color including personal color, but also design education in which color with personal color were covered. Therefore, it implies that colors, color education, and personal color through color education conducted for this study need to be positively perceived, and also color education is necessary.
Second, students in detail answered the use of personal color which was covered in class. For example, they had a plan to apply the diagnosis of personal color to fashion coordination for family and friends, and to use personal color in their future jobs. This result presents that the 6th lecture on personal color was considerably informative.
Third, the need of a task which enables students’ creativity to develop, and students to utilize in the job field was identified through a tool of diagnosing personal color made by experts and used in class, various program developments, and students’ portfolio. Plus, a task considering the characteristics of majors was necessary.
On the basis of results, the plans of invigorating programs on color education using the system of personal color are as follows.
First, the optimized system of personal color for Koreans, which can be exactly fit for traits of individuals, needs to develop.
Second, it is urgent that color education including personal color should be introduced to the regular curriculum. On top of that, not only lecturers who can professionally teach color but also training and the expansion of workshop for arts teachers, which allows students in the general schools to be taught color education are necessary.
Third, the expansion of a teaching aid for color education is necessary. Physical and financial support by the government and a professional organization can be helpful for color education. In addition, it is expected that the high education effect will happen when students practices with a tool related to color.
It is hopeful that programs on color education will motivate an individual to set up a dream and a purpose with the development of an individual and the growth for ego expression. Additionally, it is expected that an individual will have an opportunity to use and challenge programs of color education.
