Trump administration’s foreign policy has the blends of Jacksonian and Hamiltonian elements in his initial 10 months. Based on the conception of American Foreign Policy Tradition established by Walter Russell Mead, this study points out the Jacksonian and Hamiltonian characteristics in the three categories of this study. Top priority of foreign policies in Trump administration has a tendency to evolve from only the policy preferences in Jacksonianism to the blend of Jacksonian and Hamiltonian policy preferences, notably in the process of foreign policy formulation. In specific, Trump’s trade policy on NAFTA and KORUS FTA results from the president and his aides’ negative perceptive on existing trade agreements. However, Trump’s initial appointments and its affecting actual policy innovation in the field of international trade indicate that there are some possibilities of promoting Trump’s trade policy more close to Hamiltonians. Meanwhile Trump’s security policies in East Asia has also both tradition’s aspects. The policies is implementing a minimalist stance in the absence of direct threats to its security by relying on maintaining its superior military strength. In addition, there is the aspect of Hamiltonian tendency with the strategy of demanding greater role of US allies by putting its economic value first with significant US warfare sales to its allies in his visits in order to counter the threat from North Korea. This research suggests that it is important that Trump’s foreign policy have the blend of Jacksonian and Hamiltonian aspects in correctly understanding his initial foreign policy and its rationale, especially for preparing the tipping point of assertive Jacksonian threshold for the use of military force when America faced with direct threat. This possibility suggests a lot to the North Korean Nuclear issue to now.
