The purpose of this study was to find out the infant teacher's perception of the infant's happiness and needs for development of the infant's happiness enhancement activity.
The contents of research to achieve the purpose of this study were as follows.
First, research the infant teacher's perception on the infant's happiness.
Second, research the infant teacher's demand of development of the infant's happiness enhancement activity.
Based on the above questions, this study was carried out in accordance with the following procedures.
First, preceding research on infant development, positive psychology, the infant's happiness, and the happiness enhancement activity was analyzed.
Second, focus group interview was conducted for experts and questionnaire was developed with the results of interview and preceding research. The questionnaire was checked its propriety by 3 experts, then a preliminary survey was carried out for 20 infant teachers.
Third, main survey was conducted for 200 infant teachers at Busan and Gyeongnam. Collected questionnaires were analyzed by using SPSS Win 23.0 program.
The analysis result and dispute about it could be summarized as follows.
1. As a result of the definition of infant happiness, the infant teacher recognized positive relationship with parents as the most important factor that had to be included in the definition of infant happiness. It was found that infant teacher thought the infant who depended on adults was looking for happiness in the relationship with his parents who was a primary caregiver. Therefore, it was necessary for infant teacher to build positive relationship with parents so that they could cooperate with each other because the role of parents was important for infant happiness.
2. As the result of examining the features of happy infant, the infant teacher recognized the infant who felt himself loved as the highest. This seemed to consider the feature of infant that the role of parents had a great effect on infant's happiness.
3. With the result of looking through the reason that influenced infant's happiness, the infant teacher was aware of meeting basic needs as the highest of sub factors for infant. It was shown that the relationship with parents among family factors, the relationship with teacher among nursery institution factors, and safe and protected environment among social and culture factors were the most important factor for infant's happiness.
4. 85.9% of the infant teacher answered that the happiness enhancement activity was necessary and 84.1% answered to want to use the happiness enhancement activity. As a lot of infant teachers thought that the happiness enhancement activity was necessary and they wanted to utilize it in field, specific activity was needed to be developed.
5. The infant teacher recognized 'being positive' as the highest as the goal of the happiness enhancement activity for infant and they thought love as the highest in the content of happiness enhancement activity. This result could be the reason to set the goal and content when we develop the happiness enhancement activity in the future.
6. They mostly answered that the most appropriate period to apply the happiness enhancement activity to infant was all around and less than 20 minutes per session was appropriate. Also, they thought the happiness enhancement activity had to be done during freechoice activity time in one's daily routine. This implied that when the happiness enhancement activity was operated for infant, the activity should be developed to be practical in the long term in everyday life.
7. The infant teachers answered that related education with family was the most suitable for the method of infant's happiness enhancement activity. This accorded with experts and we could get how important the role of family was for infant's happiness again.
8. It was shown that self-assessment was the appropriate method in the evaluation of infant's happiness enhancement activity and it seemed that teacher observation method was proper and there was a high rate of assessment period to be quarterly, but there was no significant differences from other items.
9. As the result of open-ended question about activities that infant was happy with among them with others at daycare center, there were a lot of responses that infant was happy when doing physical activity. Since body expression was an important means of self-expression for infants and also helped them to satisfy their desires, it was necessary to develop the happiness enhancement activity utilizing body movements.
