The purpose of this study was to examine the moderate effect of coping motive on the relationship between distress tolerance and problem drinking among college student. The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test(AUDIT-K), Distress Tolerance Scale(DTS), Drinking Motive Scale were conducted to 194 college students(age M=22.02 SD=2.20). SPSS and SPSS Process was used to test the mediating effect of the data. The main findings were as follows. First, distress tolerance, coping motive, and problematic alcohol use showed statistically significant correlations in college students. Second, a mediating model based on Hayes at el(2012)'s mediating effect analyses showed that the relationship between distress tolerance and problem drinking was mediated by coping motive. Based on the result, effective therapeutic interventions for problem drinking of college student, implications and limitations of current study and suggestions for future research are discussed.
