천승세 <만선>의 갈등 양상 연구

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the conflict aspects of Chun Seung-sei’s drama, <A boat full of fish(Hangul:만선)>. <A boat full of fish> is recognized as one of the dramas with maximized tragedy. However, the analysis on the tragedy and the conflict aspects in Chun’s work seems still insufficient, which suggests the necessity of this study.
In an effort to analyze <A boat full of fish>, the conflict aspects of the drama can be categorized into 4 aspects – the first conflict: the conflict between the human representing by Gomchi(Hangul:곰치) and nature representing by the sea which is the home of Gomchi. The conflict between Gomchi who always wishes to come back with a full load of fish from the sea and the sea which always frustrate his wish typically shows the conflict between the human and nature. The second conflict: the conflilct between the Gomchi’s paternal love and the Mrs. Gupo’s(Hangul:구포댁) maternal love which is the conflict based on each one’s fate. Gomchi feels proud of himself being a fisherman followed by his families’ footsteps while Mrs. Gupo wants to leave the sea after her sons died in the sea. The third conflict: the conflict between Gomchi the poor fisherman and Lim Jaesoon(Hangul:임제순) the shipowner. Gomchi is persistently obsessed with a dream of catching a boatful of fish and led himself to the tragic downfall. It shows the tragic aspect of the play when he draws ruin upon himself with his own character defect.
<A boat full of fish> by Chun Seung-sei is not only a tragedy with various aspects of conflicts but a realism drama showing the contradictory social aspect of the time. In the 1960s when the drama was written, the realism reached its pinnacle and there were a lot of attempts to diversify the literature techniques out of realism trend. In the mean time, Chun’s work maintained the presence of the realism drama, depicting a fisherman’s miserable life and a poor fishing village in connection with the social aspect of the time. Also, it raised the status of <A boat full of fish> to a higher level as a tragedy and a realism dram that the drama created tragic characters in the aspect of forming the personality of the characters and showed a strong folkways via dialect of the southern provinces of the Korean peninsula.
