Mobile networks are experiencing heterogeneity and intricacy by the avalanche of data traffic, which bring about the possibility of overall performance degradation.
In order to overcome the limitation from more heterogeneous and denser network configurations, some recent researches have focused on harnessing storages using advanced rateless coding techniques.
Wireless caching is one of the promising technologies to mitigate the traffic burden of cellular networks and the large cost of deploying higher volume of wired backhaul by introducing caching storage.
In the way of cutting wired equipments, all types of vehicles can be readily leveraged as serving access points with caching storage, where their moving nature should be taken into account to improve latency and data throughput.
In this dissertation, we consider a mobility-aware vehicular caching which has a role to offload delay-tolerable contents from cellular networks.
We first clarify contents downloading techniques on interference channels, as a novel idea for directly harnessing interferences by data-detouring and coupling several hops, so-called two-way coding (TWC).
The proposed TWC techniques with respect to their implementation are verified as potential performance gains when the interference links are prominently strong.
TWC techniques have crucial performance gains by not only exploiting good (interference) link qualities for detouring desired information but also removing undesired information using pre-owned data, namely, side-information.
Furthermore, we exemplify channel state information (CSI) feedback strategies to realize TWC regarding the transceivers constructed by coupling successive hops.
Second, we represent the influence of mobility in cellular caching networks, then set the mobility-aware optimization problem of vehicular caching to carry on delay-tolerable contents.
A new data caching strategy for harnessing vehicles is proposed to meet quality-of-service (QoS) in urban networks where spatially non-homogeneous user demands are generated.
To overcome this non-homogeneity, the proposed vehicular caching with updating strategy utilises proactive caching on vehicles where cached data mostly include the demands from reachable areas, and sequentially updating vehicles' storage for next target areas along the moving routes.
Trace-driven numerical results based on rural and urban topographies show that, in presence of individual demand for delay-tolerable contents, the proposed vehicular caching scheme enhances the quality-of-service (QoS) (maximally twofold) relying on the contents delivery being centrally or distributedly controlled.
Also, we demonstrate that the proposed strategy offers higher QoS performances than those of random or conventional caching schemes.
