Turkish Model and the Fluctuation of Turkish-Egyptian Relations(2010-2013)
The main theme of the research is the Turkish involvement in the political events in the Middle East after the outbreak of Arab Spring and the prospects of the emergence of the Islamic tide in the region, besides the possibility of introducing the Turkish model of democracy after the success of AKP in the parliamentary elections in 2002.The study selects the Egyptian-Turkish relationship for the period 2010-2013 hypothesizes that the fluctuations of the Turkish foreign policies towards Egypt were consequences of the determination and the target of Turkish foreign policy makers to disseminate the recent Turkish political model commonly in Arab world and unambiguously in Egypt through the political role of Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The study views the Turkish involvement in the region were to achieve the followings; to establish itself as a regional power, AKP's influence in the region, and lastly, shifts in the geopolitical realities in the region, and mainly in Egypt. Relationship between Turkey and Egypt reached unprecedented level in 2012 after Turkey considered Egypt as burliest ally in the Middle East, regarding Morsi as a strategic partner who could help him increase his influence in regional conflicts and further his goal to become a regional leader. A trend represents realist school, which was used as a guidance of theoretical framework for the study. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses were utilized to explain the level of bilateral relations that included economic and political cooperation. It appeared that it is so difficult to apply the Turkish model of democracy in the Middle East as general and in Egypt In particular due to basic social and political differences, as the nature of secular society in Turkey, and the religious nature of Egypt. Turkish political trends are well aware of the essential changes that are taking place in the Middle East and is no more keeping aloof of such changes. It considers that democratization and stability of the Middle East may play crucial role in serving its interests and goals such as security and economic benefits. It is expected that bilateral relations might witness more tensions, difficulties within the coming years due to differences between the two countries.
