국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국 관련 해외 수집 기록물의 이용자 서비스 개선방안 연구

근현대시기 굴곡진 역사적 흐름 속에서 우리나라의 기록물관리는 안정적으로 이루어지지 못하였으며, 따라서 이 시기 한국의 면면을 명징하게 재현해낼 수 있는 근거 및 증거로서의 기록물들이 다수 유실되었다. 이 같은 상황으로 인해 국내의 여러 기록물 수집기관들은 기록물의 부재로 인해 유실된 역사의 간극을 메우고자 특히 2000년대 이후 해외에 소재한 한국 관련 기록물들에 대한 수집활동을 활발히 이어오고 있다.
그런데 수집된 해외 기록물은 적극적인 수집활동에 비해 그 정리를 기반으로 한 서비스가 충분히 효과적으로 이용자들에게 제공되고 있지 못한 측면이 있다.
이 같은 배경 아래, 본 연구는 한국 관련 해외 기록물의 활용 단계에서의 이용자 서비스 영역에 주목하였다. 특히, 기록정보서비스에 있어서 사실상 핵심 영역이라 할 수 있는 온라인 검색 및 열람서비스 영역에 있어 한계점을 살펴보고 이를 개선하기 위한 방안을 제안하였다. 이를 위해 국내 주요 기관별 해외 기록물 온라인 검색 및 열람서비스의 구체적인 사례를 살펴보고, 이에 대한 개선 방안을 고안해내었다.
이를 위해 본 연구는 다음과 같은 과정으로 진행하였다. 먼저 2장에서는 한국 관련 해외 수집 기록물의 개념 및 정의를 살펴보았으며, 매뉴스크립트로서 해외 수집 기록물이 갖는 주요 특징과 이용자층 유추하여 서비스 제공 시 염두에 둘 점을 살펴보았다. 또한 국내 주요 국내 기관의 수집 및 서비스 현황을 살펴보았다.
이어 3장에서는 국내 주요 기관의 실제 온라인 검색 및 열람서비스 사례를 살펴보았다. 각 기관별로 홈페이지를 통해 제공하고 있는 해외 수집 기록물 검색 방식, 분류 및 기술 방식, 검색 시 제공하는 기술요소, 이용자의 검색을 돕기 위한 참고면담서비스, 온라인 열람서비스 등에 관하여 살펴보았다.
마지막으로 4장에서는 3장에서 도출한 검색ㆍ열람 서비스의 문제점을 개선하기 위해 고려해야 할 점들을 제언하였다. 우선, 검색 및 열람 서비스를 제공하기 전 사전 준비 단계에서 개선해야 할 점을 살펴본 후, 실제 검색 및 열람 서비스 단계에서 개선해야 할 사항을 제언하였다.
본 연구는 한국 관련 해외 수집 기록물의 구체적인 사례를 대표적 기관의 온라인 서비스를 중심으로 분석하고 이를 토대로 개선방안을 제언하였다는 것에 의의를 둔다. 본 연구가 향후 유관 기관의 서비스 개선 방안을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

A Study on Improving Archival Information Services of Overseas Korea-related Manuscripts

In the bumpy course of the modern history, Korea's archival management was unstable and many records that vividly showed every aspect of Korea at that time were lost. In this regard, especially since after the 2000s, many archival agencies in this country have actively collected the Korea-related records located overseas to stop the historical gap left behind by the absence of such records.
Unfortunately, despite their aggressive activities, the archival service, which is operated based on the organized management of the collected records, manuscripts, is not efficiently provided to the users who want to browse them.
Against this backdrop, this study takes note of the service for users who want to look at the overseas Korea-related manuscripts. In particular, the study identifies the limitations of the online search and browsing service which are the essential parts of the archival information service and presents the improvement plans. To this end, the study examines specific cases of the online search and browsing service of the overseas manuscripts in Korea's major archival agencies and devises the improvement plans.
The contents of this study are as follows.
Chapter Ⅱ examines the concept and definition of the Korea-related manuscripts collected overseas, identifies the major characteristics of them as the manuscripts, and by inferring about users, clarifies things to keep in mind when providing the service. It also looks at the current status of collection and service of Korea's major archival agencies.
Chapter Ⅲ examines the actual cases of the online search and browsing service provided by Korea's major archival agencies. By referring to the web pages of the agencies, it looks at the methods of searching the manuscripts collected overseas, the methods of classification and description, description elements provided when searching, reference interview service to help users's search, and online browsing service
Lastly, Chapter Ⅳ presented things to take into account to correct the problems of the search and browsing service drawn out in Chapter Ⅲ. It examines the things to be improved in the preparation for providing search and browsing service and then proposes the things to be improved at the phase of its actual provision.
This study has its significance that it analyzed the specific cases of the overseas Korea-related manuscripts focusing on the online services provided by Korea's major archival agencies and based on the results, proposed the improvement plans. It is expected that the results of this study will be used as basic data for the related agencies to produce their service improvement plans.
