A Study on the Utilization of Personal Records through Storytelling Technique

Personal records are produced in the process of socialization while individuals lead a life and have personal emotions and feelings. Emotions and feelings contained in personal records are derived from ‘shared memories and experiences’ which were created by getting influences from history and other people who are met with in the society.
The importance of personal record lies in identity displaying creative thoughts and behaviors of personal own, but the record itself reflects the society and can prove truth of the times and society while reappearing the social phases through utilization and shares on personal records. Shares on personal feelings and experiences through utilization of personal records become to form shared memories of the society furthermore after shares on values are performed through users’ sympathy.
Therefore, methods of easily approaching to personal records and utilizing them are necessary to general people as well as researchers and archivists in order to reappear phases of the society and the times together with shares on values through utilization of personal records.
This study paid attention to archives contents which aimed at enhancing accessibility and utilizing degrees on records by users based on evidentiality, informativeness, reliability that were contained in records and had social, cultural values as a utilizing method of personal records so that general people could recognize the importance of personal records and necessity of preservation and management, and to storytelling technique which could effectively deliver professional information shown in records to users in short time and gave fun by inducing interests of users because interactions were made between the speaker and listener through the story equipping with components such as events, characters, and background. In addition, researcher introduced theoretical background of these methods, and tried to analyze usability of personal record contents utilizing storytelling techniques by investigating actual examples such as Open Archives of Korea Democracy Foundation, archive exhibition and service at Seoul City Hall Square having been progressed by Seoul City Hall, and archive exhibition on village pictures at a local community library.
