방송 기록물의 가치와 활용 방안 : <KBS 특별생방송 이산가족을 찾습니다> 기록물을 중심으로

The Value and Efficient Use of Broadcasting Records·Archives : focused on the <KBS Special Live Broadcast Finding Dispersed Families>

As broadcasting is the most universal mass media, it also functions as a record which reflects the historical times as well. However, the importance of broadcasting records and archive is being overlooked in Korea as there is no public operating broadcasting archive.
Recognizing the problem, this study suggests that each broadcasting station releases their valuable broadcasting records first. The records of the <KBS Special Live Broadcast Finding Dispersed Families> can be one case. It comprises 22,876 records of videotapes of live broadcasts, producer’s journals, applications to participate, photographs, and much more. This study researched previous ways in which the records of the <KBS Special Live Broadcast Finding Dispersed Families> had been used and now proposing new measures to use these records more widely.
First, Book of the <KBS Special Live Broadcast Finding Dispersed Families> should be described specifically by applying a rule of‘ISAD(G)(General International Standard Archival Description)’. The records’ level of description can be reorganized with Principle of Provenance. The reference code also should be reset with this procedure.
Second, the records‘ web page should provide effective search engine based on authority record. For example, the list of dispersed families can be chosen as an access point. And the users can access the records of individual’s cue cards, videos and photographs together. In addition, the web page should service news board which announces new information about the records.
Third, the exhibition hall should rearrange and display the records in accordance with a storytelling method. The records should be arranged in chronological order with the exhibition route. And the closely associated records can be displayed together in order for visitors to understand the correlation of the records easily.
Finally, a broadcast program focused on the value of these records with a title “broadcasting records” is suggested. It raises the public awareness about broadcasting records and archive system.
In conclusion, this study is expected to be an advisable example of using broadcasting records and archive. It hopes each broadcasting station changes a custom which has used a video records passively and releases their broadcasting records to the public through systematic national broadcasting archive. So the support of all walks of life and the thoughtful studies about broadcasting records and archive in Korea are required.
