Paintings of late Joseon (1392-1910) enjoyed great prosperity and developed into
various genres thanks to the import of Western pigments and combined use with
the traditional Korean pigments. One example representing the success of Korean
painting during the period is the Blue-Green Landscapes which were used to
express Korean nature in a symbolic manner largely through ample use of blue
and green pigment. The popularity of the Blue-Green Landscapes led to a
dramatic increase in the use of blue and green pigments.
