현대 소설이 인식하는 언어다양성의 위기와 소멸 양상 : 김애란의 『침묵의 미래』 이청준의 『언어사회학서설』을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 현대 문학의 거장 이청준과 떠오르는 신예 김애란의 소설을 대상으로 전 지구적 시장화에 직면한 언어의 위기와 소멸 양상을 살펴보고 이러한 시대적 상황에서의 언어 정체성과 그 의미를 고찰하는 데 궁극적인 목적이 있다.
인류의 문화유산을 전승하는데 많은 부분 기여하고 인간관계 형성에 지대한 영향을 미치는 언어에 대한 실제적 관심은 실로 중요한 과제이다. 그러나 세계화 정보화의 조류 속에 발생학적 측면에서의 언어 정체성과 실체는 곳곳에서 왜곡 날조되어 이제는 언어의 본질적 의미마저 희미해져 가는 실정이다.
이에 본 연구의 서론 1장에서는 연구의 목적과 방법을 나누어 밝히고 2장에서는 위기 언어와 연구 대상 작가들에 대한 연구 성과를 개관했다. 인간과 언어의 관계는 인간의 전 생애에 걸쳐 유의미하다. ‘인간의 언어-그 중요성’(Ⅱ)에서는 우리의 삶에서 언어는 어떤 의미와 가치를 지니고 있는지 밝히고 사회적 산물이며 사회를 반영하는 언어가 다양해야만 하는 이유를 에즈라 파운드의 견해를 빌려 설명한다.
또한 국어라는 개념을 이연숙의 저술『국어라는 사상』을 바탕으로 파헤치며 전통이 만들어진 개념이듯이 국어의 개념도 창조된 이데올로기일 가능성에 대해 탐색한다. 이에 따라 ‘인간과 언어 그 언어의 중요성’(Ⅲ)에서는 자본의 에너지로 도구화 사물화 되어 사라져가는 언어를 언어철학적 측면에서 살피고 기호로서의 언어를 기표적 측면에서 소쉬르의 언어관을 원용하여 모색하였다. 세계어 중앙어로서의 제국어만 남고 소수어 주변어가 사라져가는 안타까운 상황을 『침묵의 미래』주인공인 언어의 입을 빌려 체험하고 기호의 대상이 된 사물과 언어의 관계를 소쉬르의 『일반언어학강의』를 원용하여 파악한다.
이청준의 『언어사회학서설』에 나타난 언어 인식(Ⅳ)에서는 언어의 본질을 기의적 측면에서 밝히고 작가의 언어의미 상실에 대한 비판과 그가 제시하는 새로운 대안의 모색 과정을 탐색한다. 이청준은 우리의 삶과 세계는 텅 빈 말의 허상으로 자의적 구조일 뿐이라며 언어는 의사전달능력이 문제라기보다 너무 많은 것을 전달하려는 것이 문제라고 진단한다. 마지막 부분에 해당하는 Ⅴ의 1장에서는 본 연구의 요지를 요약하고 전 세계에서 잠식당하는 언어 생태계를 관찰한다. 2장에서는 비트겐슈타인의 언어게임 이론을 원용해 언어들의 나아갈 방향을 새롭게 제시한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The present study is focused on the novels by Lee Cheong Jun, a master of modern literature, and Kim Ai Lan, a promising new writer, with a view to examining the aspects of crisis and extinction of language and ultimately considering the identity and significance of language against the backdrop of global marketization characterizing the contemporary era.
Paying substantive attention to language, which is significantly conducive to passing down cultural heritage of humanity and enormously affecting human relations, is an important task as a matter of fact. However, the lingual identity and substance from the sociogenetic perspective in the midst of globalization and informationization is distorted and fabricated across the board to the extent that even the essential meaning of language has receded.
In this context, the introduction (I) describes the objective and method of this study, followed by chapter 2 outlining the relevant literature on language in crisis in line with authors. The relation between man and language is significant throughout man's entire life. ‘Human Language- Its Importance’(Ⅱ) sheds light on the meaning and value of language in our life, and elucidates why language as a social product mirroring human society should vary in reference to Ezra Pound's point of view.
Also, the concept of native language is delved into based on Lee Yeon Sook's writing 『An Ideology of Native Language』, and the likelihood of the concept of native language being created just like that of tradition is explored. ‘Man, Language and Its Importance’(Ⅲ) illuminates the status of language gradually perishing while being subjected to instrumentalization and objectification attributable to capital energy from the perspective of philosophy of language, and quotes Saussure's view of language to contemplate language as semiotic symbols in view of signifiant. The pitiable condition where only the imperial language as the international central language remains while minority and marginal languages vanishing is experienced by citing the language, which is the protagonist in 『The Future of Silence』. Besides, the relation between objects that have become the targets of symbols and language is explained by quoting Saussure's 『Cours de Linguistique Générale』.
In 'Lingual Perception Manifested in Lee Cheong Jun's 『An Introduction to Linguistic Sociology』(Ⅳ), the essence of language is illustrated in light of signifié. Also, this chapter explicates the author's criticism of the lost meaning of language and the process of his seeking for alternatives. Lee Cheong Jun views our life and world as nothing more than an illusion full of empty utterances and as an arbitrary structure, and diagnoses the problem of language consists in not communicative skills but the intention to communicate too many things. Lastly, the section 1 of Ⅴ summarizes the key points of this paper and observes the ecology of languages being undermined across the world. Section 2 refers to Wittgenstein's theory of language game to suggest the future orientation of languages.
