      This research is about the contents of 『Cho Gan Il Gi (草澗日記)』by Cho Gan Moon-hae Gwon (草澗 權文海), a scholar and a writer in the middle period of Chosun Dynasty, focusing not only on understanding of the literature of Moon-hae Gwon, but also of diaries as literature in 16th century. Moon-hae Gwon has been known for his voluminous work of 『Dae Dong Woon Bu Goon Oak (大東韻府群玉)』 and his honest self is revealed thoroughly through 『Cho Gan Il Gi』. Also, through this personal diary that is not about official affairs but about unofficial affairs we can learn about his daily life, surrounding people, and history that reflects the time period.
      Considering diaries are personal records, we cannot leave out the backgrounds of the writer. Therefore, chapter II is dedicated to understand the life of Moon-hae Gwon and his literary works, and examine the reason why he wrote 『Cho Gan Il Gi』through his life and works. In chapter III, we go through his experiences and environments in categories: family, hometown, Yeongnam and Yecheon to cover events in the diary.
      『Cho Gan Il Gi』is a diary of a bureaucrat but also a personal-life diary. It is a personal records of his experiences, and literature comes from experiences. Through the diary that contains the real-self of Moon-hae Gwon, we can examine the humane and pastoral side of a classical scholar (Seon-bi). We hope to see more researches on not only scholarly group (Sa-rim) of Yecheon in 'Toegye Hakmaec (academic line)', but also of overall researches on local Korean literatures through diaries in the future.
