The development of digital technology and the introduction of personal digital assistants enabled free information utilization disregarding time and place. However, excessive flooding of information became away from the efficient delivery and as a result, information of the effective configuration and excellent transmission became necessary.
Human beings collect information by their sensory. Among these, emotion gathers this process and it is the most fundamental to human cognitive abilities. Emotion is one of the most important keywords in the modern communication methods and motion graphics is an effective means of this emotional expression.
In Motion Graphic, the efficiency of the emotion information transmission depends on its organizational method of configuration tissue. Because of this, the emotional expression using its components gives a special meaning because of the personal experiences of the audience and it imposes different meanings to others. That is, emotional expressions via motion graphics not only simply an analysis of image but also a discovery of the interaction on the newly obtained sensitivity through it.
This study focused on the emotional expression using a component of motion graphics. After reviewing the components of Motion graphics, then it is investigated if the interaction of emotion intended to convey is carried out correctly. In this paper, it includes am emotion which covers a psychological area of human beings, so that a scientific approach through EEG based on the criteria of cognitive neuroscience was attempted.
The scope of the study was specified as the opening and ending titles of a film which is the original form by motion graphics to proceed research for understanding the fundamental motion graphics and a film released in Korea were included in the study among other films.
The research methods were as follows.
First, targets were analyzed by dividing into visual factor and auditory factor which were the two components of motion graphics. In this study, analysis of the components were approached as the standard of semiotic and considered itself as one symbol. The signifier (symbol shape) and the signified (symbol information) sorted from the detailed elements through the table were described and once again the signified was described on the signifier for additional description
Second, quantitative analysis with the event-related potentials (a record of cerebral electrical behavior) through EEG was performed in order to improve the objectivity of components analysis. After considering the validity through two preliminary experiments, EEG was preceded. The increased reliability of this study was due to a scientific background of component analysis on emotional expressions by genres through this.
As a result of conducting research, the components influencing the emotional expressions of the motion graphic were summarized as follows.
First of all, the emotions of the audience can vary from the selection of the image and the symbolism of the color.
Second, the direction and speed of movement should be considered for the effective emotional transfer.
Third, audible factor corresponding to a specific emotion should be used.
The result after the analysis and synthesis on emotional expressions of motion graphic with the above was that
The various emotions by components of the motion graphic had been delivered to the audience, absorption and concentration on the subject had been increased, and cognition and consideration had taken place actively.
This study was performed to analyze how the emotional expressions and its transfer were proceeded at the opening and the ending title of a film which is the basis of motion graphics, and the scientific proof on the analysis through EEG was performed. Ongoing research should be performed based on the interaction with audience through consistent analysis, verification and supplementation.
I hope this study is helpful to the production criteria of various creative works in the emotional expression of the motion graphic, and follow-up study focused on the interaction around the true meaning, not restricted expression of emotion, is continued.
