역사극에 나타난 인물 연산 연구 : 이윤택의 <문제적 인간, 연산>과 김태웅의 <이(爾)>를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

역사극에 나타난 인물 연산 연구
- 이윤택 〈문제적 인간, 연산〉과 김태웅의 〈이(爾)〉를 중심으로 -

본 연구는 이윤택의 〈문제적 인간, 연산〉과 김태웅의 〈이(爾)〉에 등장하는 ‘연산’이라는 인물의 성격과 심리를 분석하여 실존 인물 ‘연산군’이 다르게 조명될 수 있는 가능성을 아는데 목적이 있다. 두 작품의 공통점은 연산군이 수많은 역사 속 인물들 중에서 선택된 것, ‘어머니’라는 정서와 ‘왕’이라는 지위를 가진다는 점이다. 그러나 두 작품은 조선왕조실록에 나타난 연산군의 모습을 취사선택하는데 차이점을 보인다. 따라서 연산의 성격과 심리, 작품의 주제, 역사의식이 다르게 나타난다.
조선왕조실록 중 연산군일기에서 당대의 주요사건들과 작품 속에 나타난 사건들을 중심으로 알아본 후 이에 대한 당시의 평가와 더불어 현재 역사가들에 의한 평가를 알아본다. 이를 바탕으로 각각의 작품 속 연산은 역사적 사실을 어느 정도 반영했는지 알 수 있다. 실제 연산군이 가지고 있던 상황을 통해 형성된 성격이 작품에 공통적으로 반영되어 있다. ‘어머니’라는 공통된 정서는 인물 성격형성의 내적요소가 된다. 〈문제적 인간, 연산〉에서 오이디푸스 콤플렉스를 바탕으로 한 폭력적 행동들이 나타난다. 또한 ‘왕’이라는 사회적 역할에서 오는 갈등이 외적요소라 할 수 있는데 성격형성의 내적요소와 외적요소의 갈등의 과정을 보여주는 작품이라 할 수 있다. 〈이(爾)〉는 오이디푸스 콤플렉스는 물론 ‘어머니’라는 트라우마를 가진 ‘왕’이라는 인물이 한 ‘인간’으로서 가지는 내·외적 갈등을 표출하면서 시작한다. 그것은 동성애를 통해서 나타나기도 한다. 이러한 작품 속 인물의 성격과 심리를 파악하는데 정신분석학 이론들을 참고하여 분석한다. 연산의 성격형성 외적요소의 차이점으로 인해 작품의 주제가 달라졌으며 작품별 역사의식의 차이점으로까지 나아갈 수 있다.
역사극의 등장인물은 역사에 기초를 두고 과거사와 현실문제, 미래지향적 삶을 아우르며 현재의 관점에서 행동한다. 역사 속 인물이 새롭게 태어날 수 있는 것은 그 인물이 이미 가지고 있던 내면을 깊이 들여다볼수록 우리에게 익숙함을 넘어선 성격을 만들 수 있다. 역사 속 인물은 삶이 극적인 경우도 있고 현시대에서 그 인물의 삶을 재조명하는데 의미가 있는 경우도 있으며, 단면적인 모습을 입체적으로 볼 수 있도록 해주기도 한다. 결론은 인물의 성격과 심리는 작품의 주제와 성향과 더불어 현 시대를 바라보는 역사의식을 함께 알 수 있다는 점을 얻었다.

A Study on a Historical Figure Named 'Yeonsan' Appearing in Historical Plays

The purpose of this study is to find out if the figure ‘Yeonsan’ that really existed in history can be portrayed in a different light through the analysis of character and mentality demonstrated in two plays of Lee, Yoon-taek’s <A Problematic Person, Yeonsan> and Kim, Tae-woong’s <Yi (爾)>. What these two works have in common is that King Yeonsan was selected out of numerous historical figures and had an emotion called ‘Mother’ which represents the trauma that he received from the tragic death of her mother and a status of ‘King.’ Yet, these two works reveals a difference in selecting the aspects of him which appeared in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. Therefore, Yeonsan’s character, mentality, theme of the plays and historical awareness are portrayed differently in two plays.
This study investigates main events of the time from King Yeonsan’s Diary in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and events appearing in these two works, and then examines the historial evaluations of the time and those of the present historians. Based on these results, it becomes clear how accurately either of the works reflects historical facts about Yeonsan. In effect, Yeonsan’s character formed through his historical circumstances is commonly reflected in these two works. The common emotion of ‘Mother’ becomes an inner factor for the formation of his character, and in <A Problematic Person, Yeonsan>, he exhibits violent behaviors out of Oedipus complex. On the other hand, conflicts arising from his social role of the ‘King’ can be regarded as an outer factor, and this work illustrates a process of conflicts between the internal factor and the external factor. <Yi (爾)>, however, starts with the expression of inner and outer conflicts of a figure of 'King' as a 'person' with his trauma of ‘Mother’ as well as Oedipus complex, which often appears through homosexuality. By referring to theories of psychoanalysis, this study analyzes the character and mentality of a historical figure described in these two works of play, and their themes differ based on the differences of external factors adopted, further leading to a difference in historical consciousness between two plays.
Figures appearing in historical plays are based on the history, encompass past affairs, present problems and future-oriented lives and act from a present point of view. As we look more into the inner sides the person that he already had, a newly born historical figure can be created beyond the familarity of ours. Oftentimes a figure in the history might have had a drastic life , and there is a meaning in shedding a new light on the person’s life other times, and it even may help us change our linear view into a multi-faceted one on the person in question. In conclusion, this study gives a lesson that understanding a historical figure’s character and mentality might help us build a new historical consciousness on the contemporary era in addition to bringing to light the theme and nature of a work.
