이 시대 '노인으로 산다는 것'의 의미에 관한 탐색적 연구 : 노인의 성을 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the lives of the elderly of this generation through voice by conducting in-depth interviews. Further, with the government standing at crossroads unable to ignore the pathological emergence of issues relating to the lives of the elderly, as seen by their experiences and lives, and the issues with the elderly of the aging society from the rapid economic and social changes of today, this study implies the social issues of aging society, shedding a light on how lonely it is to live as an elderly.
As the aging of society is progress in Korea, the issues with the elderly due to the increased aging population require a social measure. Since living as an elderly itself has several aspects from welfare point of view, now is the time to seriously consider the issue of the elderly. The reality is that there is not much discussion on sexuality, basic desire of human, which appears alongside the extension of life expectancy. Viewed in that light, it cannot be denied that sexuality of the elderly has been perceived negatively, rather than positively, by society, and therefore concealed and hidden.
Sexuality occurs through mutual relationship between individual and society; therefore we have the right to pursue sexual satisfaction, sexual health, sexual rights, and sexual happiness. Every individual must be equal and respected in sexuality. They must not be discriminated based on gender, age, race, religion, level of education, disabilities, sexual preference, or socio-economic level, and sexual diversity must be respected. Everyone has the right to be in a free and human relationship, and is not pressured by another in all sexual decisions and issue such as dating, marriage, divorce, etc. Since sexual health and satisfaction is the root of physical, psychological, intellectual, emotional, spiritual health, for the advancement of individual and society, sexuality that is not hindered by tension or instability is pursued.
Every sexual act occurring within the ethical boundaries of individual and society must be protected and right expression for relationship or sexual exchange or sexual acts occurring with mutual consent have no legal liability. Therefore, sexuality of the elderly is the existence and life of the elderly itself. This study seeks to draw an agreement that such research on the lives of the elderly will help to improve the issue of sexuality among the elderly.
Social problems are caused by sexual problems due to misinformed knowledge about sexuality of the elderly themselves, elderly living with children or grandchildren in small apartments in cities, who are deprived of their opportunity for a relative sexual life, or elderly male who live alone or with aged wives who are unable to seek sexual relief. This study took a qualitative research approach in order to analyze these factors in-depth.
Research data was collected from male and female elderly over the age of 65, and in-depth interview was conducted on 8 elderly with the most universal and common family life and healthy thinking skills. Analysis of the in-depth interview of the participants' social life and things that have been realized in their lives showed that the participants were finding happiness and joy in their own way as an elderly in their different lives. However, they also had their worries and conflicts. Several psychological, economical, and environmental factors were obstacles.
If one asks what the most serious issue for the elderly is, it is sexuality. Since sexuality is a basic right of human with existence and value of life, this right must be respected. Therefore, the results of the in-depth interview with the study participants drew several improvements and awareness to be made socio-culturally. In order for the situation to be improved, sexuality of the elderly should be perceived as positive, rather than negative, healthy programs need to be developed through professional counseling agencies, a national policy regarding the sexuality of the elderly is needed.
As the core paradigm of 'symbiosis' shows us, 'living as an elderly' in this age is hard, but if one？s later years are to be a blessing, then the elderly should be able to enjoy love and relationships just as young people do, adding hope to their later years. Suitable to the aging society, if the government leads the effort to resolve sexual issue of the elderly and approach the elderly proposing a vision of a society where the elderly can be happy, then I hope and expect that this society will become a brighter society, a society where the elderly could be happy.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 이 시대 노인의 생활을 통해서 겪은 삶의 경험을 그들의 육성을 통하여 좀 더 깊이 있게 파악하고, 이해하기 위해 심층면접을 실시하였다. 또한 체험과 삶에서 나타난 노인들의 삶에 관한 문제와 오늘날 경제, 사회가 크게 변화 하면서, 고령화 사회의 노인들의 문제점이 우리 사회에 나타나는 병리현상으로 국가가 연구하지 않으면 안 되는 기로에서 노인으로 산다는 것이 얼마나 외로운 것인가를 생각하며 사회적 문제점을 시사하는 바이다.
이미 우리나라도 고령화 사회가 진행되면서 노인 인구의 증가로 인해 발생되는 노인 문제는 사회적인 대책을 요구하고 있으며, 노인으로 산다는 것 자체가 여러 가지 복지적 측면에서도 노인문제는 심각한 고려가 필요할 때이다. 수명의 연장과 함께 나타나는 인간의 기본 욕구라고 할 수 있는 성에 대한 논의는 접근이 잘 이루어지지 않는 현실이다. 이런 점에서 비추어볼 때, 그동안 노인의 성문제가 사회적으로 긍정적인 측면 보다는 부정적인 측면으로 인식되어 은폐되어 감추어져 왔음을 부정할 수는 없다.
성은 개인과 사회의 상호관계를 통하여 이루어지므로, 우리는 성적만족, 성적건강, 성적권리 및 성적 행복 등을 추구할 권리가 있다. 모든 개인은 성에서 평등하며 존중받아야 한다. 따라서 성별, 연령, 인종 종교, 학력, 장애유무, 성적지향 및 사회경제 수준 등에 따른 차별을 받지 않으며, 성적 다양성 또한 인정받아야 한다. 누구나 인간답고 자유롭게 교제할 권리가 있으며 연애, 결혼, 이혼 및 기타의 모든 성적 결정과 문제들에 대하여 타인에 의한 강압을 받지 아니한다. 성적 건강과 만족은 육체적, 정신적, 지적, 정서적, 영적 건강의 근원이 되므로 개인과 사회의 발달을 위하여 갈등이나 불안 등에 의해 방해를 받지 않는 성을 추구한다.
개인과 사회의 윤리적 테두리 안에서 행해지는 모든 성행동은 보호 받아야 하며, 교제나 성적인 교류를 위한 정당한 표현이나 상호간에 동의가 이루어진 성행동에 대하여는 법적 책임을 지지 아니한다. 그러므로 노인의 성은 노인의 존재와 삶 그 자체이다. 이러한 노인들의 삶에 대한 연구를 통해 노인들의 성문제 개선에 대해 도움이 될 수 있을 것이라는 합의를 도출해 내고자 하였다.
노인들 자신의 잘못된 성지식이나 도시의 좁은 아파트에서 자식이나 손자 등 동반가족들과 공동생활을 하는 노인들의 경우에는 상대적인 성생활의 기회조차 박탈당하고 있으며, 혼자 사는 노인 남성이나 노령의 부인으로 인해 성적 해소가 이루어지지 않을 때는 성문제로 인하여 사회적 문제를 야기하기도 한다. 그러한 요인들을 심층적으로 연구 분석하기 위해 본 연구는 질적 연구 방법으로 접근하였다.
연구자료 수집방법은 65세 이상의 남녀 노인들을 대상으로 가장 보편적이고 평범한 가정생활과 건강한 사고력을 가진 노인들 8명을 대상으로 심층면접을 통해 이루어졌다. 본 연구 참여자들의 사회생활과 삶의 현장에서 현실화된 사항을 심층 면접하여 분석한 결과 이들은 서로 다른 다양한 생활 속에서 노인으로서 나름대로의 행복과 즐거움을 찾고 있었다. 그러나 노인들에게도 고민과 갈등은 있었다. 여러 가지 심리적인 요인과 경제적인 요인 그리고 환경적인 요인들이 걸림돌이 되기도 한다.
노인들에게 가장 심각한 것이 뭘까 하고 묻는다면 성이다. 성은 존재와 삶의 가치가 있는 한 인간의 기본적인 권리이기 때문에 그 권리를 존중해 주어야 한다. 그러므로 연구 참여자들의 심층면접을 통해 알아본 결과 사회 문화적으로 개선되어야 할 점과 인식들이 도출 되었다. 이러한 사항이 개선되려면 노인들의 성에 대해서 부정적인 면 보다는 긍정적으로 인정하고, 전문상담기관을 통한 건전한 프로그램의 개발과 노인의 성문제에 대한 국가적 정책이 필요할 때이다.
'공생'이라는 핵심 패러다임에서 보여 주듯이, 이 시대 '노인으로 산다는 것'은 고달픈 일이지만, 노인들도 노후가 축복이 되려면, 젊은이 못지않게 사랑과 이성을 함께 즐기면서 황혼을 마음껏 희망으로 덧칠 할 수 있는 사회가 되었으면 한다. 이제 고령화 사회에 걸맞게 노인들의 성문제도 국가가 앞장서서 노인들의 행복한 사회를 꿈꾸는 비전으로 제시하며 노인들에게 다가간다면 이 사회는 더 밝은 사회로 살아갈 수 있는 노인이 행복한 사회가 되리라 본 연구자는 믿고 확신하며 기대하고자 한다.
