Determinants of FDI Inflow into Myanmar and Vietnam : 미얀마와 베트남의 외국직접투자 결정요인 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

1989년의 미얀마 경제 개혁과 1986년 베트남 경제개혁으로 인해 미얀마는 FDI의 빠른 흐름과 함께 1990년대 초반까지 ASEAN 국가 중 가장 빨리 성장하는 국가 중 하나가 되었으며 베트남은 지금까지도 ASEAN에서 경제가 가장 빨리 성장하는 국가이다. 외국의 직접 투자(FDI)는 미얀마와 베트남에 있어서 경제 성장과 발달을 돕는 중요한 요소이다. 이 논문은 1989년에서 2010년까지 미얀마와 베트남에서의 FDI 를 결정하는 요소들을 탐구한다. 주요 결과는 민주적 선거가 미얀마에 FDI 유입이라는 관점에서 긍정적이며, 큰 효과를 가져왔다는 것을 보여준다. 반면 베트남으로의 FDI 유입에 있어서는 더 큰 시장 크기와 무역의 개방성이 큰 역할을 하였다. 하지만 연구의 이 단계에서는 FDI와 인력 자원 품질, ASEAN에 가입한 시점, 천연자원 사이에 강력한 관계가 발견되지 않았다. 이 측면에 대해 보다 잘 이해하기 위해서는 추가 연구가 필요하다.

Because of Myanmar economic reforms in 1989 and Vietnamese economic reforms in 1986, Myanmar became one of the most rapidly growing countries in ASEAN up to the early 1990s with rapid inflow of FDI, and Vietnamese economy has been among the fastest growing countries in ASEAN until now. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an important factor helping economic growth and development in Myanmar and Vietnam. This paper explores factors that determine FDI in Myanmar and Vietnam from 1989 to 2010. The main results show that the democratic election made a great positive effect on FDI inflow into Myanmar whereas larger market size and wider opening of trade were significant factors attracting FDI inflow into Vietnam. At this stage of research, however, we have not found a strong relationship between FDI and human capital quality, the time of joining ASEAN or natural resources. Further study is needed to gain a better understanding on this aspect
