The Eutmori is a 10-beat rhythm that is quite uncommon in the chapters of Gayageum Sanjo. Until now, the Eutmori rhythm had received relatively little
scholastic attention compared to other rhytms; recognizing this problem, a comparative research about the scales and fundamental tones of Gayageum
Eutmori chapters contained in four respective Gayageum sanjo schools - which are the Kim Byung Ho school, Seo Gong Chul school, Seung Geum Yeon school and Shin Gwan Yong school - was conducted, revealing that the scales of all four schools were mi scales featuring (mi)-(sol)-(la)-(do-si)-(re) and that the fundamental tones were g (la) and d'(la) tones. Individual results are the following.
Firstly, an analysis on the Eutmori chapter from the Kim Byung Ho school revealed that it consists of a mi scale featuring (mi)-(sol)-(la)-(do-si)-(re), and that from a total of 21 rhythms, the fundamental tone of 19 rhythms is g(la), while the other 2 have d'(la) as their fundamental tone. It was also verified that the tonic procession of all 21 rhythms feature a transition from g(la)→d'(la)→g(la).
Secondly, an analysis on the Eutmori chapter from the Seo Gong Chul school revealed that it consists of a mi scale featuring (mi)-(sol)-(la)-(do-si)-(re), and that from a total of 28 rhythms, the fundamental tone of 15 rhythms is d'(la), while the other 13 have g(la) as their fundamental tone. It was also verified that the tonic procession of all 28 rhythms feature a transition from d'(la)→g(la)→ d'(la)→ g(la).
Thirdly, it was verified that the four rhythms in the Eutmori chapter from the Seong Geum Yeon school consist of a mi scale featuring (mi)-(sol)-(la)-(do-si)-(re), and that their fundamental tone is g(la).
Fourthly, an analysis on the Eutmori chapter from the Kim Byung Ho school revealed that it consists of a mi scale featuring (mi)-(sol)-(la)-(do-si)-(re), and that from a total of 30 rhythms, the fundamental tone of 21 rhythms is g(la), while the other 9 have d'(la) as their fundamental tone. It was also verified that the tonic procession of all 28 rhythms feature a transition from g(la)→d'(la)→ g(la).
In conclusion, an analysis on the Eutmori chapter from the Kim Byung Ho school, Seo Gong Chul school, Seung Geum Yeon school and Shin Gwan Yong school revealed that all of them consist of mi scale (mi-sol-la-do-re), and have 'la' as their fundamental tone. The pattern of melody transition was also identified as there is an upwards transitioning of four full degrees or a downwards transitioning of five full degrees in some schools.
