An application frequency of vertical drainage method is increasing as an effective consolidation acceleration method. There are many vertical drainage materials in used and many studies have been conducted about it.
PBD method is most frequently used as a consolidation acceleration method in vertical drainage methods. PBD is economical and easy to manipulate but has some problems those are an environmental pollution and a decrease of a discharge capacity caused by bending of drainage materials when it is used in great depth. SCP method was frequently used because it's discharge capacity is good but now it rarely used because of an increase of the material price caused by an order imbalance. As the measure to solve these problems, GCP method has been to the fore.
For analyzing the effect of GCP method on the discharge capacity, three types of composite discharge capacity test is done by GCP, SCP, PBD respectively with the circle case, ∅38×70㎝. In the result, PBD shows the best discharge capacity and the shortest dissipation time of excess pore pressure. On the contrary to this, GCP shows the worst discharge capacity by a decrease of the void ratio and a clogging phenomenon caused by increasing load.
Also to figure out the clogging range of GCP, the clogging of GCP is checked in each load stage with a large case which has clear acrylic front face. The diameter of GCP was 35cm and a clogging phenomenon occured in 10% approximately.
The effect of GCP method on the discharge capacity can be understood in this thesis, and it would be expected to be achieved the effective construction by using these results in the design and applying these to the construction.
