As international marriage is currently increasing in our society, the number of multicultural family is also increasing and the attention toward multicultural family and their children is being enlarged. Since the children from family formed through international marriage begin to take public education, their family background and cultural background have caused many difficulties in terms of developmental education. These difficulties gives a negative impact on forming peer relationship, which is one of important factors for them to be grown desirably as well as a right social process, and thus counseling approaches are required.
The purpose of this study is systematically to construct program for enhancing peer relationship of multicultural students. The issues of this study as follows.
First, What is the purpose of the group counseling for enhancing peer relationship of elementary school multicultural students?
Second, What contents should be included in the group counseling for enhancing peer relationship of elementary school multicultural students?
Third, In which structure and form should be designed the group counseling for enhancing peer relationship of elementary school multicultural students?
Forth, Through what process should be proceeded the group counseling for enhancing peer relationship of elementary school multicultural students?
To achieve this purpose, the process of this study as followed : First, by exploring the characteristic of multicultural students. Next, by reviewing the literature and the need of potential participants and teachers the factors of the program was extracted and then the program was constructed. And the program contents was developed in the basis of reviewing the related literatures. To validate the constructed program was corrected through potential participants' reports, related multiculturall students and professionals' consultation. The finally constructed program was consisted of ten sessions of group counseling. The activity of a session is a set of 40 minutes.
This study aims to help the elementary school multicultural students' difficulties through counseling approaches, that is, it is begun to help conquer the difficulties they have through group counseling and it can be valuable for this. Because the programs for improvement of developed peer relationship positively affect to peer relationship between participants, it is expected to help develop peer relationship between elementary school students living in bicultural family.
However, the objects are limited since this study targets Chungcheongnam-do T-Gun who have foreign mother due to international marriage. Therefore, the program research for multicultural family children’s various forms in several regions is seemed to be required by expanding range of object. In addition, the objects for research analysis of elementary school student’s peers and parents should be wider and there should be also objective verification study accomplished continuously.
