The purpose of this study was to define the relationship between a child?s behavior and his/her mom, who has a direct influence on her child. Both mom?s self-esteem and parenting attitude were selected for the mom-side factors. For the child-side factor, the attention ability was included in the correlation analysis. Ghang Seung-Gyu's(1994) questionnaire was applied to measure mom?s self-esteem, which is a adopted version of Nathaniel Branden's(1992). Mom?s parenting attitude was measured by Goo Hyojin?s method, which was used in her research paper reported to National Research Foundation of Korea in 2007. The relationship among mom?s self-esteem, mom?s parenting attitude, and the child?s behavior was analyzed using SPSSWIN 17.0. As a child?s attention ability is composed of four sub-factors?Omission Error, Response Time, Response Time Deviation, ANOVA test and Duncan?s Multiple Range test were used to define the relationship between the four sub-factors and mom-side factors. The correlation analysis showed that mom?s self-esteem was positively related to her positive parenting attitude and negatively related to her negative attitude. Among the four sub-factors of a child?s attention behavior, the Omission Error factor was statistically related to the mom?s self-esteem. Mom?s parenting attitude also showed significant correlation to the Omission Error. Both the Omission error and the Response time deviation were found to be strong determining factors in identifying a child?s attention problem. In conclusion, the Omission Error and the Response Time Deviation, which are the two major sub-factors of a child?s attention ability, are significantly correlated with mom?s self-esteem and mom?s parenting attitude.
